T Stands for Tuesday & Spring is Here

  Hi Everyone,
Our last T for the month of March. Seems like a very long month doesn't it ??  With all of the concerns over the world pandemic-we are all in this together though.

If you missed my last post I shared my latest painting inspired from one of my own sunrise photos. I like this one better than some of them.

Today we had another lovely day almost 70 degrees f so I decided to search for my old gardening seeds and plant some pots full of lettuce, radishes, swiss chard, and baby bok choys-we will see what happens. I also put a small pot under the hook hanger and planted some edible pea pods-they can wind on up that hummingbird pole

and you can see my almost empty coffee cup here

These are in front of the door that faces the driveway and road These have swiss chard and leaf lettuce.

This is a huge copper pot that we brought down. Years and years ago one of Larry's relatives drilled holes in this for flowers.  What a way to ruin this copper pot. He was always going to see if he could seal the holes-which is a project that never got done-soooo I brought it to the lake house to do just that with it haha.
I filled it with several different radishes and leaf lettuce's. mini bok choy

I put the pea pods in that small pot-I may need to move it if they don't grow tall fast enough as those are iris's coming up around it.

You can see from this photo we are still in construction mode. We bought bricks for my outdoor kitchen, and I brought those patio bricks and bricks that I had bought. If nothing else I will set up something for my cast iron cooking. All these bricks were for my outdoor kitchen, plus another load down by the fire pit-with the virus we can't have our helper do this now.
All that rock and concrete pieces is what was in the walk way down there-that all needs to get hauled off to other areas on the property-a large hill, and a pathway down to the lake.

I didn't take photos but the oregano plant I brought down that sits next to the lavender plant is budding out as is the lavender. Happy about that. I will probably get the lavender out of the pot this fall and plant it directly into the ground.

Last fall I raked up allot of leaves-bushels and bushels of them-I was amazed how many leaves on this tiny lot-compared to our woods home where we lived amongst lots of trees. There I didn't do anything with them except rake up the ones around the buildings and put them in the compost pile.
Everyone around me here was burning their leaves in the road-wierd I thought lol I don't like burning leaves.  I raked them up against a wall behind the fire pit-and decided now that I needed to start burning them-just too many and I don't have a way to compost here.

If you enlarge this photo and look close at the edge of the grass line nearest the water you will find a pair of robins.  I saw the one robin so went into the house to grab my camera and when I got back he was still there--when I uploaded the photo I discovered there were two  Did you find them? The robin to the right of the other is looking at you.
I worry about everything-now it's the grass-it just started growing and we don't have anything to cut it. We tried different people last year and they were so bad we had to fire them-keep telling Hubs he needs to put an ad out again for help with this.

Below is behind the fire pit and to the far right-I thought this was cool-a little house for a critter of some sort.

And this photo is way to the left of above photo-where I raked up loads of leaves last fall all along this wall. I have discovered many wild violets in the grass in this area-so these leaves nee to get off so they don't die out-I love the wild violets. I enjoy making things with them too.

Yesterday (Sunday) I made us comfort food-baby back ribs- It was very windy so I cooked them in a covered roaster in the oven. This was the left overs

I have been enjoying the different teas I bought-they are all green teas or white teas. I have not been disappointed with any of the teas. Very nice combinations of teas and flowers etc

another drink reference-Husband's hard root beer-when we had dinner on the deck last week

That's my catch up for this week-I was kinda in the dumps last week, too concerned over the virus spread which is around us now-would not be safe for us to drive back to the woods house area right now as they have allot of cases.

Actually I am grateful that we are here at the lake house otherwise I don't know how I could buy food-I would be afraid to shop in my old area now. I may look into buying groceries online at Wal Mart and then have them put my foods in my car.
So many people from the large cities came to the lake this past weekend-not happy about that as I am sure they have spread the virus-they need to stay home to save lives.
I did not go anywhere at all for 2 1/2 weeks and then last week I needed to go grocery shopping-it worked out well-was very very foggy so very few people at the store. They only let me buy one dozen eggs though-which was a bummer.

I have always bought things ahead by 2 months it's what we do living rural, so I have things in the pantry just not fresh items.
Still have not been able to buy any t paper so am glad I still have about 6 weeks in stock.

Happy T everyone-stay safe

  1. They are worried here in New Hampshire about people coming in with the virus. We have so many lake houses in the area that it could make things bad if any are infected. They are asking people to voluntarily quarantine for 2 weeks. Let's hope they do. We also had lots of leaves, but since I live in the woods I can just rake them there. I can't get over how you are able to plant seeds already. Guess that's what happens living further north. Maybe even a few snowflakes for tomorrow. Oh well. Have a wonderful T day Kathy. Hugs-Erika

    1. I think the governments do not want martial law but places like New York City they should have grounded all the travel.
yep this is the first time I have ever had to do something with the leaves. These are all cold crop seeds that can be planted early March--I forgot about critters here though-will see what happens. hugs

  2. I am growing bok choy this year for the first time. Wait? Did I spell it right? I' not sure. But it will be a first for me. Excited to give it a go. I haven't been to the market in two weeks, hubby stopped on the ride home from work today. The last time I was there, the stores were calm and still a lot on the shelves but when I go, I go at night, when it's cold and rainy and barely anyone else was there. Anyway, I love heirloom seeds. Excited to start mine. Cheers and boogie boogie.

    1. yep good for you I grow mini bok choys because here we don't usually get enough rain for the regular ones and they like it cooler-here laste summer early fall might work better.
I have only gone shopping once-last week-not sure what I will do in a couple weeks. best to go when most are not shopping.
      have a good week-

    2. Great tip on the baby ones. Thank you. I live in a colder area so I tried to pick good cool stuff. I also have radishes and never grew them before. Very excited. And, I hope you share more of your garden adventures in days to come.

  3. Hi Kathy!

I KNOW people won't stay home.. The trails are crazy busy here.. as are the stores etc... Items in the store have gotten better since they started restrictions.. I finally found toilet paper.. whew! The limits are restricting sometimes .. like water .. i would like to buy more of at once.. But i think the limits are helping keep things in stock.. People have literally bombarded the trails out at the park.. Thank goodness the Visitor Center is closed or i probably would have quit.. People think hey i'm outside its all good ... meanwhile they are surrounded by people.. crazy.. Take care.. be safe.. Hugs! deb

    1. Hi Deb-this really gets Larry upset that people will not stay home-we see big groups from friends on fb too-going mushroom hunting-really? I love that too but not in a group. I keep saying if you don't all live in the same home than not safe. they closed all the visitors centers here in Missouri too but are allowing boating-hiking-even free fishing for now. you be safe too-hugs

  4. Happy for you that you can begin planting already! We've had a few really warm days again but it's still too soon to plant here...
I do wish everyone would be better about staying put except for the necessities. As much as I love the beach and so want to take in the salt air and sea I will not go until it is clearly safe to do so. Happy T day!

    1. these are all cold crop seeds-that can handle colder nights-not a freeze-could happen-I did forget about the critters here that come in at night.
I so wish people would listen and do things in groups or travel from infected cities-that is really bad and will keep the spread happening. they may have to martial law into place in those hot spots.
      you be safe too-hugs

  5. Your teas look yummy! I loved seeing all your pots that you planted your veggies in. The peas and bok choy sound like something that I would like to try growing. Unfortunately, we have critter issues so nothing tasty grows in my garden.
Glad that you are still able to get your groceries. We have limits on certain items in our stores but thankfully I have been able to get what I need.
    Happy Tea Day,

    1. I totally forgot about the critters here that come in the night-will see how that goes-they destroyed the suet feeders I put out back a few months ago.
I went shopping last week-my county has it's first case just now and with all those people that came in boating over the weekend from other cities-not good.
      Happy T hugs

  6. I enjoyed seeing your photos of your seeds and plantings, Kathy. You are so lucky to live where you do right now. You can start a compost pile like I have. I have three and I alternate them because I don't turn them. I use old trash cans VERY large trash cans. I add everything from paper to leaves to grass clippings to food waste. Since I'm a vegetarian, I don't worry about meat getting in my compost piles. However, I'm glad you were sensible and burned in your pit. MUCH safer, especially with the high winds we've been having. I mostly mulch my leaves with my mulching mower. It saves a lot of raking!

Those green teas look SO much better than the ones I bought to make art. Thanks for sharing your food, your tea, and your gardening with us for T this almost Tuesday.

    1. thanks Elizabeth-that's a good idea a compost in an old trash can I may try that. yes a mulching lawn mower would be great-I only burn or cook outdoors if there is no wind.
these are lovely teas-glad your internet is still working-hugs

  8. Nice new background of your blog!
I sadly cannot let go of my blog-background, the memories are too sweet...

70F! We had darn snow yesterday!
Can´t wait to do some planting, too - when it finally gets warmer...

Oh, you have so much space, I could nearly get a bit jealous. Beautiful!!! But also a lot of work, I reckon.

Bird-wise I must be blind! A friend once wanted to show me a little blue bird. He went down to my level and described exactly where that darn... Till today I do not know if he was kidding me or if there was a bird indeed!

Ohhh. That beer I would like to give to my Brother!

Argh, I can send you some t-paper in case ;-) We have enough! A happy T-day to you!

oh I was hoping you could see the robins-they are towards the middle in the back of the grass-need to enlarge the photo

  10. I love the photos of your home, it's in a beautiful setting. We don't do enough cooking outside, we used to but if it's fly season we have to go in as they drive you mad.
We had that problem here where they shut down Madrid and they all came to their holiday homes on the coast so now it's become worse down here.
Take care, I'm trying not to worry, much,ha,ha, Jan x

  11. Great photos, Kathy. It’s a lovely setting. Having lived on a lake I know your concern about boat traffic, especially on weekends. We could not go on the water during warm weather weekends. They are a hardy breed to be ignoring the “stay at home” dictates.

  12. IT was lovely to see the photos you shared Kathy.
Many things you talked about are the same here, with folk travelling with no good reason, they now can be stopped by police and given a fine .Folk were even taking their caravans and mobile homes to country beauty areas, the police told them to turn and go home. This made me so cross and upset at how thoughtless they are.

  13. I loved being outside your lake. Himself has started seeds for lettuce and tomato. We have 9 cases of Covid-19 in my tiny, rural town. I've been trying to shop using the store's online shopping service. Lots of people using the service and the workers are threatening to go on strike. Our state is also worried about out of staters coming in to visit Cape Cod. Lots of out of staters have Summer homes there. The state has issued a reminder to people coming in to the state to self-quarantine for 14 days. But we'll get through this. Take care.

  21. This is just a quick comment, in response to yours. I don't like Pelosi, and haven't for a long time. I don't like them pushing for Trump to use the War Powers Act or whatever the thing is. (I haven't been watching the national news for awhile.) I saw some headline about Cuomo and the warehouse filled with medical equipment, but I haven't had time to find out what the actual facts are. (Fake News comes from both sides: left leaning news sites and right leaning news sites.) Trumps "border" powers end at the US boundaries: he can not issue quarantines for States or parts of states, yet that is exactly what he tweeted and said he was considering doing. And his only complaint seemed to be New Yorkers going to Florida. So why didn't the Florida Governor close the beaches BEFORE all of the Spring break college students arrived? He wasn't motivated by getting the revenues from the hotel tourist taxes on them, now was he? Both political parties are playing politics during this covid-19 situation, instead of putting We The People first. How much PORK was in that bill they just passed? Did you know 1 billion of that 8.3 billion covid-19 bill they passed a few weeks ago went to foreign countries to help those countries with their covid-19 problems? Charity begins at home. Also, we can't just tell everyone to stay home. What about people in nursing homes? Who is going to take care of them, if everyone is supposed to stay home? The highways in the tri-state NY, NJ, CT area no longer have rush hour traffic on them, because most people are staying at home / working at home / what have you. There might be a few bad apples not following the rules, but many others are. And you can't quarantine people who have not tested positive, unless we want to be like communist China, instead of a Democracy. In summary, I agree with many of the things you've said, so I hope my comments about Trump didn't offend you. Normally I don't really care what he's doing. I don't hate him the way some people have since he beat Hillary: I'm usually indifferent to him.

    1. No worries-I have totally stopped watching news of any sort-the main channels on tv which I used to watch every night should be ashamed of themselves. I only watch what is happening live-the President and his team have gone on once a day around 4 pm my time for updates on what is happening. I stream it live on fb or one can go to the white house pages or Breibert I wish he wouldn't take questions from the press because the majority always try to trap him-he is too smart for that and very very alert. and they ask stupid questions or ask questions he has already answered in his speech.
The President does have the powers to tell the states what to do--he activated something that gives him that power-forgot what it was called-it is like war powers. the press is always urging him to do do this-don't know why. the only private company he had to use these powers over was GM all the other companies either called him up and volunteered to make things or when he called companies they were ready to help convert machines to make it. we only buy GM cars so I was disappointed in them. after watching these press conferences almost every day now I can now see why he goes off on the press-they are really for the most part horrible people. I have more respect for our President after watching him daily for the last couple weeks and listening to the professional medical team.

  23. I'm back to comment on your T post. :-) Your yard looks good. Focusing on things like planting and the brick walk (without having your helper) are positive things. I like your outdoor pots. The potting soil looks like the same type of consistency I used to repot my Christmas Cactus. I always count the first Robin I see in my yard as the harbinger of Spring. It sounds like your weather has been very nice there. It's on the cool side here in Connecticut.

With regard to Trump and the news: I agree that many "journalists" should be ashamed of themselves, not just for their reporting right now about covid-19, but for quite a few years now. And unfortunately, many Americans are so polarized that they can't tolerate others unless their opinion agrees with theirs. Many people no longer accept others with a different viewpoint from their own. I don't expect everyone to agree with "my opinion" and ostracize those who disagree, like many in this country do. And unfortunately free speech is no longer tolerated if it disagrees with the opinion of others, to the point of people being vilified for saying something that others don't agree with.

When Bush (Republican) was President, Pelosi (Democrat) demanded a time table for bringing home our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. When Obama (Democrat) was President, Pelosi never said a word, and our troops remained in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now that Trump (Republican) is President, and our troops are STILL there, Pelosi still hasn't said a word. (Perhaps she thinks people's memories aren't so short that they would remember she was silent about the topic during the Obama years.) And that is one reason why I dislike Pelosi. She is a fraud, like many politicians on both sides are. My opinion about our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan didn't change 180 degrees when the political party of the President changed.

    1. I agree with you about many not wanting to discuss anything rather they dislike you if you do not agree with them-very sad I always thought this started during the Obama years or perhaps just after-Obama In my opinion changed the younger generation'w way of thinking at that time-to be lazy, not be responsible for themselves, depend on the government, if Clinton would have won the election our country would have been lost and away from the ideals that formed our country in the first place. Trump can learn to be nicer-but I saw a couple interviews in the past why he acts this way-and he said if he was himself and was more kind the left would walk all over him and our country-I believe that even more after watching him talk with the press every day now-I totally refuse to watch any news media any more-they are to be reporting the news only fact-not biased opinions-even the local news now where we live at the lake is very biased to the left-so I quit watching them now too
and Pelosi-all these politians that have been in office for almost 40 years or more now need to go I wish they could get voted out all of them and Pelosi was in love and charmed with Obama-he could do no wrong-walked on water-disgusting to watch.
