Good morning, I woke up too early again this morning so was browsing on the internet. On Instagram I saw this on a fiber artist's post
So of course this peaked my interest so I did a search for more information. I found a good tutorial on You Tube (don't ya just love You Tube?)
Part 1
and here is a link to more videos that come after this first one. I found this very intriguing. She suggests using wool and shows how to join more yarn-which would be easiest with wool.
Of course I searched for a book
Interesting to me that this craft uses a needle similar to the Amish toothbrush rug needle. I never grasped knitting at all-My Mom did some fabulous knitting but I never got the hang of it-I may need to try this out-I have lots of wool here smiles.
I am so enjoying our cooler weather here in the Missouri Ozarks. So good to Not hear the a/c running. Very cool nights and pleasant days. I will break down and do a good watering today-as no rain here in over a month. The deer are looking for food-I am assuming they are the ones that ate my geranium plant way down, ate my green bean plants down to the soil, and more. I wanted to start some edible greens seeds for healthy veggies soon-will need to cover those for sure.
On the plus side no cutting grass needed at the moment. I really need a good soaking rain so I can get my ornamental grasses transplanted-that's a big job too-but I need rain. This is on my mind to get done before the frost hits-mid October.
Larry is liking the Alaskan fish so far-I made us cod yesterday-so good.
Have a good rest of your week and in the States Happy Labor Day-looks like perfect weather for the boaters here.
I've heard of and seen someone actually doing nalbinding. I would like to learn how to do this. Glad you are still having some cooler weather, but I think we both need the rain god to give us some showers. Hope you get them soon. Enjoy your lovely weather. It's great. Isn't it? hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteGood morning, there are quite a few good you tube videos but I found a book that looks the best so far-- With One Needle - How to Nålbind Paperback – January 1, 2019
Deleteby Mervi Pasanen it is just under $35.00 most places online. Yes I am loving the weather-thinking we are done with the high 90's finally hugs
Kathy this is certainly interesting...never heard of Nailbind but it looks like something to try when the snow is flying. As I am reading through your post...realize that we are both having the same weather pattern...we are so dry. It has certainly been a bad year for gardening. Oh well you and I both know there is hope for next year. It takes a lot to discourage gardeners. They are always ready in the spring to start digging and planting, forgetting the previous year and hoping for a much better one coming. Have a delightful Labor Day Weekend. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI agree us gardeners are always hopeful for the next year-hugs Happy Labor day
DeleteI am sorry I am so "slack" atm!!!! It´s been tough, health-wise but I think It goes better.
ReplyDeleteI want to retire to try all the cool stuff you find and share! Wanted to go to "the beach" tomorrow. Rain...? Either way, hope all is good with your lake and the fish, hug to "all" of you!
Hello Iris, no worries-I am not online as much either any more, don't visit everyone I should as often as I should hoping you feel better soon-hugs we need rain badly here -there will be fires for sure with everything so burnt up and dry-if people are not careful with their bbq's over the holiday take are hugs
DeleteNailbinding looks interesting . So can you use the same tool that you've already bought? Do you think the book will be better than just watching the videos? I like to do origami but i've never been able to learn it in a book. I've found a good teacher on YouTube where he goes slow and shows every angle and i can stop rewind and start again.. We have not had the big cool down here... We are expecting a little cool down Sun/Mon with rain into the 80's but then right back up again.. Today we will be 100F... '
ReplyDeleteHubby changed the battery in his desk top computer.... It wasn't keeping the correct time.. and now it won't work right... UUuuggh ... so now he is off this morning trying to get it fixed... or may end up with a new one... uuuughhh...
I hope some of your perrenials survive... I would love to have plants and flowers but where i live and the cost of water i keep it to a minimum... and use drought tolerant plants when i do plant something... I always envy those lush English Gardens...lol where they never seem to have to water.. Its hard when your area is used to more rain then you get a drought year... I hope your plants survive! :) fingers crossed.. I too will be glad to not have to hear the airconditioner for a while... gets on my nerves.. Take care kathy! I've had kids for two days so i need to get caught up around here.. :) Hugs! deb
Good morning, He finally mailed off the wooden needle for the amish rug-that might be too will but will see when I get it. I found several handmade wooden needles on etsy-so bookmarked those. I also saw some being made with two holes-so checked on that-good if you want to use two colors or one video said it makes the thread more secure in the needle too.
DeleteI do learn a lot watching videos too-I found a better book than one I am showing here-but that one is 35.00 or higher everywhere I checked but that looked like a much better book and included patterns too.
Bummer about the laptop usually when the battery goes more economical to buy a new laptop-we found that out when Larry was trying to fix the one he had
The perennials should survive without the rain just didn't bloom this year-I may just start cutting all those down-as there still is no rain in sight here for the coming weeks.
the a/c gets on my nerves too but I save a lot of money this year setting the thermostat up higher.
You take care as well-any new craft projects with the kids?
Enjoy that lovely cooler weather. I’m still waiting…
ReplyDeleteI hope you get some soon-this has been so nice for sure
DeleteHappy Labor Day! -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com
ReplyDeletethank you
DeleteHi Kathy, I love YouTube, you can find just about anything! Very cool!
ReplyDeleteIt has cooled down here in Montreal, thankfully, and today it is rainy and cloudy. I don't mind at all. Nice to be able to get out without worrying about heat stroke, dehydration or smoke from the wildfires. Hugs.
I love You Tube too can learn how to do lots of stuff there. so glad you got a cool down too-still no rain here at all sadly take care hugs
DeleteVery interesting I have never heard of it.
ReplyDeleteYes the weather is much better here too and we are dry. We did get some rain a few days ago and filled my rain barrel(All the water off the roof) but more coming in tomorrow not enough but still good.
Cathy
I had not ever heard of it either-but am intrigued and may just try this. I am loving the cool down but we are in desperate need of rain here I am thinking the ranchers will be losing their last hay cutting with no rain. for over a month here take care
DeleteI so love history so this was interesting to me. We finally got some rain today, but I need to go out and add water to our birdbath. Glad the cod was good and that Larry liked it. Janice
ReplyDeleteme too reading more about it online this was from the Viking era. I have a towel pattern for weaving that I love that is also from the Viking era-so thought that was interesting.
DeleteI glad Larry enjoyed the cod too-I baked it this time in a cast iron pan just with olive oil.
I didn't feel like dragging out the hose today so I have to that tomorrow for sure. no rain in forecast again for the next two weeks Happy Labor Day weekend
