We were gifted a cool morning with no sunshine early-good for me so I grabbed my weed eater and mowed for 2 hours. Got the worse of the tall grass now. Another two hours should complete the areas by the lake side, but then time to start over haha.
While mowing I discovered a pretty bloom and one other bud on a bush that has never bloomed since we moved here-5 years ago. This is a spot that is a mess, with different plantings-a job for early spring or fall. Looks like the previous owner bought a couple different small bushes and a vine and just planted them together in this spot. Maybe this fall I can straighten this out.
When I saw this bloom I thought mallow but when I looked it up not sure if that is right. anyone know?? These are blooming on the dark green bush behind the flower
I got our first box of beef cuts from the company Good Chop last Friday.
Over the weekend I used one of the flank steaks-sliced it very thin across the grain, sprinkled adobo spice all over-and popped it in the frig for a few hours. When I make fajitas I have a hot cast iron pan with a little olive oil and toss in a few slices and cook it fast-take out of the pan and continue til finished. I combine the meat with already sauted onion and sweet pepper slices. The flavor was excellent and very tender.
I chose all lean cuts for us, since we are seniors and Larry has so many medical issues. I am happy so far with the meat and the company.
Happy New week
.
Glad you are happy with the meat company
ReplyDeletethanks
DeleteIt's nice to be able to get good meat, and lean I think 🤔 is better for everyone, not just seniors and anyone with health issues, because there is so much fat and sodium, sugar and other things in most foods. You 😊 ❤️ did well, dear friend.
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda, we live very rural so not much choice in grocery stores. I buy more and more canned goods online too. very happy with the beef so far and I am supporting usa ranchers too
DeleteYour plant looks like a Rose of Sharon bush, which is indeed a mallow. Older varieties self-seed (and from personal experience, I learned that if you don't want sprouts all over the yard you have to deadhead the seed pods before they mature). Newer varieties don't
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon thank you so much for the information-good to know about the seed issue. wonder why it is just now blooming-we have had a lot of rain
DeleteI don't know what that plant is but the flower is really pretty. And ha ha about the lawn. I think we all have that issue, unless it gets so dry the grass doesn't grow. Good luck with your mowing. And I think I need to make fajitas. It's been a bit since I've had one and you've inspired me. Have a super week. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteThank you Erika, we really love fajitas and they are easy to make, I usually make refried beans with them too-using all sorts of different beans.
Deletemy one friend in comments said this was rose of sharon
Glad you enjoyed the meat. I am not sure what your bloom is.
ReplyDeleteI have gotten gardening done but it has been very hot.
Cathy
we are headed right back to super hot too-thisis just going to be one of those very hot summers. one of my friends in comments said this was rose of sharon stay cool
DeleteIt looks like a Rose of Sharon to me, but I might be wrong.
ReplyDeletethank you another friend suggested rose of sharon too looking it up I believe it is-will do some trimming this late fall-perhaps get more blooms next year
DeleteThat flank steak sounds delicious!
ReplyDeleteIt was thanks
DeleteIf i had to make a guess... and it looks like someone already did... i'd say Rose of Sharon.... NICE! Beautiful bush.. cold hardy... I've seen some have trouble with aphids and bugs in general.. Glad that you like your beef box! The grass is growing like hotcakes here ... Weedeating/mowing is a daily chore for me.. Just used three batteries this morning.. Tomorrow i will pull out the mower and mow what i can mow.. uuugh.. rained a little today and more expected this afternoon.. uuughh... i'm raising the white flag... ;) Hugs! deb
ReplyDeletethe weed cutting is a huge chore for me too-especially finding a cool enough morning or evening to cut. this is getting to be a difficult task for me this year.
Deletewe missed the rain again for the most part-glad your area is getting some
hugs
Fajitas. YUMMY! YOur new flower looks like a Rose of Sharon or Hibiscus to me. Janice
ReplyDeleteWe love fajitas too I make them from scratch a couple times a month for us. I think this flower is rose of sharon-a couple other comments are thinking that too. I looked it up and I agree. it needs a good trimming in that area this fall.
Deletehope you are enjoying your week off
Before I read the comments, I knew it was Rose of Sharon. I have three of them planted near the ugly fence my neighbor put up a few years ago. Mine don't reseed, but they propagate by spreading roots.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like the beef box. Good choice, I take it.
Thank you Elizabeth this fall I will see if I can straighten out this area it is really a mess-interesting it propagates by roots It is in full sun too.
DeleteI am happy with the beef we don't eat much meat any more but I wanted quality usa beef on hand.
Congrats on 12 years of T
