This was so exciting to discover when I went out to cut grass to the right of the dock. I went back into the house and grabbed the camera so Larry could see them.
. I think it was two years ago possibly 3 that we bought Japanese water iris plants from an Ebay seller. That year I think I bought these in the fall. I lost over half of these do to the waves. You insert these into cracks in the rocks in our situation here at the lake-otherwise if you have a pond you plant them along the water's edge-they like and need water. The water is still not full yet either-will be up level by Memorial Day.
We had also bought yellow ones but I have lost all of those-I just ordered another set of 4 plants this morning.
And sadly the peonies are to the left of this photo-I lost one of the pink ones that was closest to the lake-it must have gotten too much water-it was there last year for sure. That was a bummer, must have lost it over the winter.
Lovely iris. Prayers for Larry. -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com

DeleteI have a friend with a pond on her property. She planted one yellow water Iris years ago and now the whole pond is surrounded by them. Yours are beautiful too. And how exciting. I bet next year your patch will be even larger. :) Iris are beautiful spring blooms, as are peonies. Thanks for sharing these Kathy. hope you're having a nice week-but with flowers blooming how can you not? hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteThank you Erika, flowers are good for our soul I think this was such a wonderful surprise-they do spread a lot will be interesting to see how they spread in the rocks-they will find some space I am sure. these are huge black slate type rocks at the edge of the lake next to the land
DeleteI'll be thinking of Larry today Kathy... I hope things turnaround... does your heart good doesn't it to see your flowers blooming even though you've lost some... That lavender is a survivor for sure... The plants i've planted are getting their first taste of Summer weather today and tomorrow... 105F...uuughhh.... yuck.... Littlest GrandLittle is spending the night tonight and most of the day tomorrow... :) Should be fun... We'll be attempting a Monkey Cake that she insists is a Unicorn Pie... lol Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteOh my I am Not ready for hot weather like that just yet-I have so much to do still to get things planted etc. How fun with your Grand. I stayed overnite a lot with my farmer grandparents-and loved it so much and still think about them still. so you are making good memories together

Thank you-- hugs
Beautiful flowers...and I love ❤️ the water.
ReplyDeleteGood evening-thank you
DeleteSeeing your water irises now makes me also miss mine I had in my pond at my other house. So beautiful. Glad they came back for you. Janice
ReplyDeleteThey are lovely aren't they? Larry can't walk any more to see them-so I cut him one of each. I didn't realize the new ones are pretty much the same color-a little darker than the new ones-which is ok I ordered the yellow ones anxious to get those planted too
DeleteThose are so very beautiful. I would have been just as excited as you -- those bright purple blooms by the lake. Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteThank you These are really lovely on the lake
DeleteKathy I am sending up prayers for your husband. I am sorry he is not doing well. Am so glad to see that your irises are blooming and that little lavender plant is a miracle. I have tried so many times to grow lavender but mine always seems to die over the winter. Well take care. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Debbie, we knew this day was coming just not how soon-his heart function is less than 15% now, and he has not recovered from that horrible fall off the stone wall I am working on not being too gloomy around him
DeleteI never could get a lavender plant to winter over either til we moved down to Missouri. last winter was extremely cold though and it was a very old plant from the woods home so am happy I could enjoy it for a few more years.
take care=hugs
