Happy First Day of May

I am happy that May has arrived. Soooo -- Happy May.

I hadn't realized that May 1st is May Day for the European labor unions. The US does not celebrate at least if they do I am not familiar. When I worked for the phone co we pretty much had to be part of the union there but no celebration for May Day.

We have had Lots of rain here, some flooding of rivers in Missouri. Today looks like mostly cloudy skies but not a lot of rain chances-a good thing for now.  I am hoping to get outdoors later this afternoon to pull some weeds and dig up unwanted mini oak trees that grow quite rapidly.

I have a major problem with over run mint as well-from the too much water from our well last year.-I don't want to use a chemical as the  mint is growing around other perennials.  I may dig and pull an area and then cover with plastic or something to try and kill the roots-this will be a huge job-ugh.

Enjoy your first day of May!

  1. If you do not have too many perrenials mixed with the mint .... maybe let the mint have it and move the perrennials ? Would that be a possibility? Maybe plant some more varieties of mint and just have a mint bed??? Happy May Day to you as well.... Came around fast this year.. to me... Hugs! deb

    1. Good afternoon, that's an idea but this is a huge area on the right side of the steps-we had that water leak from the well so the roots are deep too- I will start pulling it out in sections and cover with plastic and rocks to hopefully kill it-that side has the most sun too which is better for my perennials

    2. Can you mow or weed whack over the mint so it's more of a short ground cover?

  3. I know about mint. I use it in salads, but very invasive. You have to plant it in an area where you know the roots wont go elsewhere here. I have a problem with vinca vine in my yard now. Happy May Day! We had thunderstorms roll in with rain here too today. Janice

    1. This mint would not have taken over so much except for water leak we had in our well last year-the soil is still soft from the rains so I got a bunch dug out today-instead of pulling it out I am digging it out-will keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't come back ugh what a project
