Happy T for Tuesday. We all meet up over at Bleubeard and Elizabeth's blog to visit friends with a drink related photo to share. Find link in my sidebar.
In my area of Missouri we have had spring like weather this past week. Lots of wind and rain, still pretty cool at night but some days warms up to the 60's and close to the 70's-so no complaints here-except I have not been able to clean up the yard and burn leaves with the high wind.
Quite a few fisherman on the lake over the weekend with the sunshine and warmer temps. Larry and his friend went out fishing today early in the morning (Monday) as the weather is changing tonight into rain and cold. So happy Larry can finally get out and go fishing. Update: well bummer, Larry has the worst luck at times, never did "get that" as He is someone that is always helping others etc. He came home about an hour after he left-problems with the very expensive Garmin set up that controls his trolling motor etc-so they have no way to control the boat- now that it is not working properly. He hurt his back in the process ugh Takes hours on hold to get a Garmin tech person.
I am still spinning. Mostly going pretty well and then I get back to my too thick and uneven yarns-ugh. I did find another video on how to make a very long roving from the blending board. The first time I tried it I messed it up but this morning it came out perfect-loving this method so much more than the other two I tried out and shared.
Here is mine
This is what it looks like when finished tearing it to make one piece-this will get drafted out-made thinner-for spinning
I took a couple different spinning classes at Fiber U over the years when we lived closer to this event at the woods house. I mentioned to one of my teachers that I get so frustrated that I have not improved my spinning although I keep trying. She says you must spin every day-at least that is what she needed to do. Others just jump right in and make nice yarn right away-it has been a struggle for me over the years. I love it so keep trying to make better yarn
I dug out a couple of my spinning books and have been trying out other ways to work with my spindles. I do want to get my spinning wheel out one day too and see if I can figure out the issue why the wheel won't stay turning.
The pretty tweed finished This is one of my favorites so far.
Hi Kathy, you get so much done every week, cooking , baking, spinning, reading, wow! Glad you had some good weather and that Larry could go fishing. Have a great week, happy T Day, hugs,Valerie
ReplyDeletethanks, I always push myself to get something accomplished every day, even if it is just reading for a down day.
DeleteBeautiful spinning, the brownies look delicious!
ReplyDeletethank you so much the brownies are really good
DeleteI have read that book, and I really enjoyed it. In fact when I was cleaning last fall I found my copy and I should really read it again. It's been quite awhile-like several years. Too bad about your husband's boating issue. Hopefully he can get it fixed without too many issues. And your brownies and tea flavor both look delicious, or sound delicious. I hope you have a great T day and week ahead Kathy. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteGood morning, I just read a little bit so far and I am loving the author's writing-I know I will learn allot and enjoy the read.
DeleteHe spend 3 hours in a cold boat with the tech-not good for his poor health-they are sending him a part that he has to install-really not happy with Garmin at all-this was very expensive and he has only used it three times
Now that I reorganized my teas I can find the different teas better-this is a nice one. hugs
It's awesome that you have so much fun withe spinning.
ReplyDeletethank you If I didn't enjoy working with the fibers so much I would have given up by now haha others just spin really well right away
DeleteI admire your patience and strong will! And the yarn did come out great.
ReplyDeleteI have a small book on colors but my baking took forever yesterday - anothe "excuse"! ;-)
Your tea sounds very yummy. Next T-Day I´ll share mine (that has had bread all over, yuck!)
Oh, your beautiful lake!
Hugs and to a happy T-Day!
Good morning Iris, in the past I have given up and waited a year or so to get back to it-this is it now that I am a senior determined to stick with it now
Deletethis was a delicious tea we are having lovely sunrises again and now the full moon too Happy T
Actually I think I could write a book about this post. Or maybe I could just write WOW in all caps. I am impressed with your yarns especially the stripes. The advice to spin every day could well be applied to almost every craft - painting, sewing, etc. your brownies look so good. It has been so long since I have had a bite of chocolate🙁 I hope Larry’s Garmin problem is an easy fix so he can get back out on the water. Oh and what a beautiful sunrise. Hill Top Post p.s. I want that book! 🥴
ReplyDeleteI agree for me I really need to practice every day, right now since the weather has not been good to work outdoors I am just spinning and spinning haha
DeleteI hadn't made a chocolate dessert in a long time either. This is an excellent book so far-she had a long preface in the beginning that after reading knew this was going to be good and informative too. I searched around for a good price
Your yarns looks so pretty and soft. It makes me want to pet them. Brownies with a cup of tea sounds good right about now. Happy T Day
ReplyDeletethat was my breakfast a brownie and a cup of tea-smiles Happy T
DeleteThat tweed is very beautiful. Well done. And I didn't know Winsor Newton had a newsletter -- I must find that one!
ReplyDeletethank you I really love that tweed I might see if she has more I am really enjoying the Winsor Newton newsletter
DeleteThe weather has been nice, hasn't it, and your views are beautiful! Happy T Tuesday
ReplyDeleteIt has we are sunny today but very cold again no snow or ice though-a good thing
DeleteDon't you hate it when a piece of technology lets you down?! I'm sorry that ruined Larry's fishing trip. I'm surprised it didn't have hand controls only Garmin.. That sucks. And he hurt himself.... sigh.. i hope he's alright. Your brownies look yummy! Ofcourse you had me at chocolate! lol And your roving is beautiful! You will make something beautiful from that!! Happy T day! Hugs! deb
ReplyDeletegood morning-yes for Garmin this was pretty bad-he has only used it 3 times, I told him at least they didn't expect us to pay for the part but we did have to give them a large deposit that we will get back once we return the old one-so that tells ya this won't even be a new part probably a refurbished one-sigh-now its too cold again but the part is coming in fast got a note for tomorrow but is a huge job to take out and put in the new part-craziness for his health/
Deletethese brownies are sooo good too I use bobs red mill gluten free brownie mix. I plan to weave up a poncho or rauna with all these hand spuns Happy T
That tweed is fabulous, Kathy. The brownies look yum. The lake looks beautiful. Things look so homey and serene in your neck of the woods. Happy t-day and hugz
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, I really love the tweed too I think it's my favorite so far. The brownies were delicious. right now things are quite here at the lake-give another month-it will crazy here lol
DeleteYour tea sounds like a delicious blend and I bet it pairs wonderfully with brownies. Wow, I love your tweed. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of this book but I will add it to my list. Thank you for the suggestion. I will have to subscribe to this newsletter.
Happy Tea Day,
Kate
You may be able to get this book from your library, I really like it allot so far. I do enjoy winsor newtons newsletters and they do not sent out too many.
Deletethis is a nice tea blend, I like the white teas Happy T
Beautiful sunrise photo! Wow! I am going to try a gluten free recipe for our Biblestudy this month. Happy T Day
ReplyDeletegood luck with your baking-I most always bake everything from scratch but sometimes when baking gf, a high quality mix works better for me-I use Bob's red Mill for the brownies and I also keep on hand their gf cake mix for upside down cakes
DeleteHappy T
You pack SO much into each T post, I never know where to begin. Sorry to read about Larry's boat issue. I can't believe the tech won't install the new part. Speaks poorly for that company.
ReplyDeleteYour spinning is beautiful, even if you think it's not perfect. It all looks perfect to me, even the roving. I love the beautiful tweed. I know it will end up making a great poncho. I hope you get your spinning wheel working, too.
That book sounds impressive. I am glad you were able to find one and you are enjoying it.
Wow, your gf brownies look amazing and your tea sounds quite impressive. I bet you will have more of that impressive white tea in the future. Thanks for sharing Larry's misfortune (hope his back is better), your spinning, your new book, and your tea and brownies with us for T this Tuesday, dear Kathy.
BTW, it 's very cold here and windy, too.
thank you Elizabeth, Garmen is a big company too, we did get the part already today so they must have over nighted it-but now it needs to warm up for Larry to figure out how to take the old part off and this new one on-for the cost of this system they should send a tech out to do this I will be writing a letter to the main company they are in olathe ks
Deletethanks about my yarn, I am feeling better about my spinning-as I am seeing improvement. I don't mind that I am spinning singles now. they usually spin a very fine yarn and then ply two together.
I am impressed with this book-and so far not boring excellent writer.
we have been enjoying these brownies I do like this white tea-it has been buried a couple years now-found it again haha.
stay warm hugs
Happy Week After Next T Is Spring!
ReplyDeleteThe colots of your yarns are beautiful.
thank you-I am ready for spring too
DeleteI'm sorry Larry had such a bad day. I think your spinning and yarn work is gorgeous. As they say, practice, practice, practice. Again, I think you are doing well. Hmmm brownies sound so good. I wish it would warm up here. Have a great day today.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Nicole, they over nighted the part but now we are cold and raining for the couple of weeks-always something-sigh I am happy with my spinning from what it was before-I am enjoying spinning the long white wool roving the best so far-the fibers slide so much easier. Enjoy your day-hugs
DeleteThank you, that sad thing he has only used this Garmin system three times-and now we are too cold again for fishing-oh well that's life
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying spinning again hugs
So sorry you have no heat there-I would be frozen totally with no heat as would my water pipes.
ReplyDeleteI do enjoy the Winsor and newton newsletters Happy T hugs
So sorry to read that just as the weather warms up Larry has to stop. I hope he can get back out there soon and that his back recovers quickly. It's that practice thing that we have to try and keep up - my sketching, hubby's calligraphy - it's so easy to think of something else to do! The yarn you've already done looks fabulous. A very belated Happy T Day, Chrisx
ReplyDeleteHi Chris, I appreciate your visits no matter when you can visit. yes practice does really help-I had gotten frustrated with the spinning so many time-this year is the year to stick with it haha mid 70's now so no more not trying.
DeleteI didn't know your husband liked calligraphy-I have been wanting to learn that very much-I have a book just haven't made time for it-I do use my dip pen and ink all the time now though for my slow mail letters especially.
Happy T hugs
