This month's new theme is heavy metal over at AJJ. At first thought I Had no idea what to do for this challenge. Then one of Valerie's suggestions was rust. Ahh I can do this as I still have a big bag of my rust dyed fabrics from back around 2005. One of my first fun dye projects when I had retired in the fall of 2003.
At the time I was doing allot of different dye projects using interior design fabrics that a friend had gifted me. I saved all the cottons and linen samples.
I chose this piece as it fit my journal page perfectly, just needed to cut a little bit off of the bottom. I grabbed a couple stamps that also represents love for February. After stamping I used ink pens to fill in, and then I decided to grab my watercolor pencils-I wish I would have grabbed those first.
I am pleased enough to submit this over at AJJ
We are still getting allot of rain, and I made a apple-pear crisp in a deep cast iron pan
Thank you for dropping by for a visit
Sadly gray and rainy air. That rust painting is really interesting!
ReplyDeletewe have had sooo many of these grey days this winter-gets depressing for sure. the rust dying is so much fun
DeleteNeat project. Your creativity is amazing.
ReplyDeleteCast iron pan crisp, I'm going to give it a try. On this snowy day, it will be nice with a hit cup of tea.

ReplyDeleteThank you so much I appreciate it very much-this page came together for me. we love this dessert sometimes I add in fresh blueberries or cranberries
DeleteYou got fabulous rust results on this piece of cloth Kathy. And it works so well to make a great journal page. Glad you joined us at Art Journal Journey for Valerie's challenge. Hope the new month is going well. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteThank you Erika, this was the perfect piece so I wouldn't waste any of the fabric trimming into the journal-I only cut off about a 1/2 an inch.
Deleteyou have a good new month as well-hugs
I love your work and ... WOW to the beautiful lake-pic, of course!!! Keep them coming, please.
ReplyDeleteThe apple-crisp looks good, too, help, I still have 1 1/2 apples here as well!
thank you Iris-this is allot of our views on the lake now-gloomy cloudy or raining-I do love the rain though.
DeleteYour cooking always looks so good! I also love the art-I've never tried rust dying-it sounds fun. We've got almost 2 feet of snow here....
ReplyDeletewow-allot of snow-the rust dying is fun to do
DeleteThat apple pear crisp looks so yummy, I'd love some with my cuppa just now 😀. Loving seeing your art again and the rusted fabric looks amazing! Happy Friday and weekend! Hugs, Jo x
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Jo-hugs
DeleteA pear-apple crisp sound delicious to me. When I first met Miriam her neighbour had a pear tree which always bore lots of fruit, and the first pie she ever made for the two of us was a pear pie.
ReplyDeleteThat is so special. We love pears
DeleteI have never tried the rust technique as yet, maybe sometime soon? I do like the result you got and remember Elizabeth doing experiments with rusting fabric. I love the end results and its addition to your journal page is lovely.
ReplyDeleteRight now with being on a diet I am eyeing that pear and apple dish and thinking how much I could just eat it - perhaps all of it!
Hugs, Neet xx
thank you so much Neet. rust dyeing was one of the first "natural" dyes I experimented with soon after I retired and moved to the woods back in 2003. It is allot of fun, I had a big collection of rusty objects to play with. My best success was when we had very high summer temperatures with high humidity as well.
Deletewe don't eat many carbs any more and no more sugar I bake with the keto sweeteners. apples have lots of carbs as does the oatmeal but it is one of the things I splurge on for comfort food. these are always so delicious Happy new week-hugs
I like the rusty stain look in your artwork. Your apple crisp always looks delicious. It's snowing here today, where I am (2/7/2021). :-(
ReplyDeleteHi Anne thank you and I am thinking you are getting tired of lots of snow now. stay warm and safe hugs
DeleteThe apple pear crisp looks delicious! We're getting a lot of rain here, too. And now it's getting colder, so we will get more snow, too.
ReplyDeleteGood morning, thank you we always enjoy this crisp. we are now in for a week with bitter cold temps stay safe and warm
DeleteOh My! I'm so far behind! I love the fabulous rusty look to this! Apple and Pear crisp would do for me any day! Hugs, Chrisx
