Hot in the Ozarks & Ramblings

Summer came in with the Solstice yesterday. Hit mid 90's and will continue  through next week as  well. What a complete turn around here from too much rain and perfectly comfortable temperatures to this extreme heat wave-I will need to water my perennials this evening going forward.

Snoopy says it best haha Of course the non seniors are loving this weather so the lake is crazy-always fun to watch the different boats go by

Yesterday morning I mowed on the hill and stood on a gravel path down to the lake that Larry put in a few years ago. Some how this messed up my back by evening yesterday. ugh I have lost a lot of weight figuring out what to eat for the acid reflux and over the winter I have lost a lot of muscle too I will need to work on that. Still in a lot of pain today so could not get outdoors to work this morning.

We mostly eat port and chicken and I am eating more ocean fish now too. Today Larry informed me he is tired of pork and wants more beef. He never says anything so this must have been on his mind for awhile With his heart condition I didn't think beef was all that good for him. I did look it up online and it suggested beef cuts good for seniors.   The wal mart  here where we live now has horrible meat, and the beef prices are out of line too.  The local grocery store has a better selection to choose from so will need to explore that next time. I also put in a request for meat shops near me in a local facebook group for this area of the lake. Maybe there is butcher shop that sells meat nearby.

I was a vegetarian in the past for several years and I  never cared for a lot of beef anyways growing up so I really am not good at cooking it either-Will need to look into that.

:Looks like our nation has gone from too much rain and storms to a massive heat wave.

Stay safe everyone.  Oh and looking out my kitchen window today I saw a couple different butterflies and also one hummingbird enjoying the milkweed flowers  Smiles

  1. Hi Kathy, I think I will join Snoopy in that pool! LOL! It is supposed to be 46 degrees here on Monday...that is Celsius. In Fahrenheit this is 114! I will definitely not be going out, thankfully I am well stock on food, water and electrolytes. Chicken and fish are good food. Thank you so much for sharing your post, and for making me smile with Snoopy! :)

    1. Thank you Pam I think lots of are getting this heat wave. I have an author friend that lives not too far from Yellowstone Park and they are getting cold and snow this week--they do live at the base of a mountain too

  4. If you're concerned about Larry eating too much beef you could use a small amount to season sauces, soups, and casseroles. That would give them a beefy taste.

  5. Beef prices have gone up a lot. It's my hubby's and my favorite meat, but we don't eat it all that often for lots of reasons, including price. And stay cool Kathy. The heat has come up here in the northeast too. It was so beautiful yesterday (Saturday) and now it's time for the AC's. hugs-Erika

    1. Wow I wonder why you are getting so much rain-I just fed the birds and at 10:30 am the heat and air quality are extreme already. I hurt my back on the last cutting and now it's too hot for me to be out there-ugh always somethin.
Glad to read that Alvin is doing better. I make me a bowl of oatmeal almost every day now-one thing that doesn't make me sick
Hugs hoping the wind dies down

  8. I buy our meat from a butcher that sells local meat. Fresh ocean fish. Yeah it’s expensive but that’s when meatless meals are sprinkled in throughout the week. Boy there is quite the taste difference with quality local foods even produce!
We got hit with an Alaskan cold front - unseasonably cool temperatures, wind and snow flurries in the mountains. ❄️

    1. I just found out about a local rancher that sells his beef at a farmers market-so contacted him to find out what lean cuts he has. I didn't even know we had a farmers market haha I think I have seen it in the past but it is very small-may check it out next saturday. I am really enjoying the ocean fish I am getting by mail from Alaska-so delicious.
My friend that lives outside of Yellowstone park in Montana is getting a cold front with snow-too that might be nicer than the extreme heat and humidity here-smiles Have a good week ahead

  9. As everyone has commented, the heat is on and in New England as Erika commented. We are staying indoors today and a couple more days will be puled pork because it's in the crock pot, so no oven in use. I made a small side of potato salad and of bean salad as well. We are mostly chicken, pork and fish eaters and when we do use beef it's for a meatloaf or chili as we always have leftovers. Our local supermarket in addition to the packaged meets also has a separate butcher shop. Hope you will feel less achy in a few days.

    1. God afternoon, your meal sounds perfect. I made fajitas made a small amount for me with no spices and I found taco shells for me made with cassava flour which were really good.
we have this high heat with humidity through til the 4th of July so will just have to deal with it haha
I found out about a local rancher for beef so will check that out. I sent the link to Larry and he says pretty expensive-yep even more so in the stores and I don't know where the beef is coming from.
I will have to research out how to prepare those lean cuts.
Lots of boats out there for a Sunday

  12. That Snoopy is just great! Both of them. Yes, hot, hot, hot here too. I'm not winter fan, but I wouldn't mind a happy medium, especially for June! We tend to go more for pork, chicken and salmon than beef, which has become ridiculously pricey!

    1. I agree about the hot weather. I kinda expected it here since we such a very cold winter here. I watered my perennials early this morning-it was already very hot and humid by 8 am sigh.
I am looking into locally grown beef that sells at a farmers market near me twice a month. so will check it out--stay cool

  13. Summer has been here awhile. Love your Snoopy images. I hope your back is better by now. I'm finding being a vegetarian isn't much fun anymore. I eat a lot of junk instead of healthy food. Never was a fan of pork, even before I became a vegetarian. Don't like the taste of it. Ham I love, though. Go figure.

    1. I love snoopy always has me smiling. I have eating more ocean fish lately from Alaska-Larry doesn't like to eat fish though so I make him something different. I cook us mostly pork and chicken the beef prices are so expensive these days but I found a missouri rancher that sells his beef at a nearby farmers market couple times a month-so will get a couple cuts for Larry to try I was never good at preparing beef My Mom always over cooked it so was always tough-ugh I will need search out how to best prepare the leaner cuts My fahter's favorite meat was always ham I do like ham too but so salty with preservatives

    2. I guess I don't notice the salt because I always use a sweet honey mustard glaze when I bake mine.
