Cool Down & Lots of Rain

So thankful for the cool down-finally, and Lots and Lots of rain coming down since last night. My rain gauge showed 11 inches in a 24 hour period and it is still coming down around 5 pm now.

We really needed some rain, and I really needed the cool down too.  Of course my grass is so high already-oh well.  I am sure the Missouri rivers here will be flooded as some of the low spots and coves on Lake in the Ozarks. We are up high so we are safe from flooding. Although our basement will get some rain coming in when we get this much.

I found this photo online-looks like our lake right now-missing the lake houses.

I wanted to do a re do of the Spring in Paris-into a Summer in Paris. I didn't get perfect stamping images and since this was the second try didn't want to use more watercolor paper on this.  I used my watercolor pencils instead of inks-which were fun to use too-and my dip pen and ink to make the cobbled street.  This was so so but I am working on doing something with paints every week-hopefully a couple days a week.. After I painted the big heart-not sure if I liked that or not-but the color does match with one of the flowers to the left so kinda brings it all together.

Click to enlarge for better viewing.

It has also been two years ago that I bought a few glass dip pens-I Love using them.  I had bought a hand blown glass pen first, however it is quite fragile looking so I mostly admire that one.  At the time I wanted to learn calligraphy but too  much has happened since then.

The dip pen shown above was the second glass pen I bought, but it is a bit bulky for letter writing. I used it here for the cobblestones. I found it on Amazon and it came in a really nice wooden box, with a little glass piece to rest the pen on.  The crystal ink pot is vintage and Larry brought home two of these from a garage sale years ago. They came sitting on a little wooden piece that would sit on a desk. The top is silver-I love using these. I keep my own black walnut ink in one and the other black ink.

I also found on Amazon back then, very nice glass dip pens that had a huge markdown-after I bought one to see what they were like-ended up being perfect for letter writing-so I bought a couple more. At the time I didn't know if these would break easy-so far none of them have..

Another nice thing about this cool down-no super loud fan motor to listen to  since the a/c is not coming on. I need to call them Monday to find out if they got the new motor or not-I need to do some food shopping early this week too-am pretty much out of fresh veggies and fruits..

   Happy new week!!

  1. Hi Kathy, I really like your sketch! Beautiful! We got some much needed rain here in Montreal as well. Today is partly sunny, partly cloudy and comfortable, but tomorrow the heat and humidity will be back again. We are supposed to get some rain on Tuesday, hopefully that will bring the temperatures to a more comfortable number, but I am just taking it one day at a time.
Those pens you talked about sound really nice. I have never done any drawings, sketches or calligraphy, either, but as you know, I love seeing the artistic talent of others, including yourself, so I thank you so much for sharing.
I hope your fan and air conditioner will be working properly for you very soon.
Warm hugs and much love to you.

    1. Hi Linda, thanks-I used two rubber stamps for this piece and then colored it in with watercolor pencils. One adds a little water to the pallet and then with the watercolor pencil in the water-it makes paint-haha My husband found these at a garage sale years ago
I am so glad you finally got rain too and a cool down. It is still raining here as I type this-probably another couple inches of rain again after I emptied the rain gauge. seems we go with no rain at all to almost too much rain now.
These glass dip pens I find so much fun to use-I write many letters to friends with these
I am hoping too the fan gets fixed sometime this week,
      Hugs back Happy new week

  3. I'm delighted to read your home sits high and you don't have to worry about flooding. That lake looks vicious.

Nice redo on the spring/summer in Paris. Your glass tip pen is lovely. I remember when you got it. Glad to see you getting back into art again, dear.

  5. So nice to see your painting... love the glass dip pens... I would love one but haven't seen them in the stores lately nor have i wanted to pay the price when i do see them...lol Wow! 11 inches of rain... wow wow! We live on a high spot too so no danger of flooding for us either.. We could use a fraction of that rain.. We keep seeing the monsoon clouds off to our West but they come no closer... makes for beautiful sunssets thought... :) Take care Kathy... i'm on a Grandma Day Adventure! We are getting our new roof today and i really don't think i could listen to all the hammers banging... so i'll be out and about... Hugs! deb

    1. The hand blown glass pen I bought from an artisian on etsy is gorgeous-and a splurge-but it looked so fragile I was afraid to use it. back then on amazon they were priced very low especially the ones on sale. I really enjoy using them.
Glad your new roof is coming-have fun with the grands Hugs

  6. Did I read that right, 11 inches in 24 hours?!?!? We could use some of that up here as we are very, very very dry.

  7. That dip pen is beautiful. I just started using one (but not the gorgeous glass ones) and am enjoying it. Your redo is very nice indeed. Isn't it fun to redo something from the long ago now that you're more experienced? I love doing that sometimes!

    1. Good morning, I have really enjoyed using the glass dip pins-there are lots to choose on Amazon and less expensive now-most under $10.00 I had wanted to learn caligraphy, but I didn't have the patience for it-I may try that again too.
I had fun with the re do, I liked using the inks better, I did get the new book on how to make watercolor paints from botanicals-I need to get some supplies first though

  8. Kathy your art looks wonderful. I enjoy seeing your creative endeavors. With the rain and high temperatures it is certainly a good time to do art. I received your sweet card with the confetti (thanks for the warning). You made my day. Hope you and Larry have a good 4th of July and the a/c gets fixed soon. So glad you are having a cool-down. Hot and humid here and more rain today. Am wondering if I am living in Fla. instead of Ohio. :)!! Hugs
