We woke up this morning with winds and a little rain now we have lots of rain coming down. Good thing the mowers came yesterday to mow and trim our lawn.
This is a man-made lake designed to make electricity that we live on-Lake in the Ozarks-and for some reason the authorities are allowing ocean boats on this lake-it's all money making I think as they are continuing to build more and more high end Condos here. Sad as this has always been a family fishing lake. In the end if this continues it will wear down the rocked shorelines.
As I was taking photos, a hummingbird flew in-second photo-We now have a pair that visits every day and this morning the male was defending the feeder from another male. I would like to be able to put up a second feeder.
I did a second video just now, to show the threading. This is much more tedious and time consuming to thread, since there are 4 threads per dent (slot in reed) which must stay in order from the cross. I haven't been weaving steadily for a few years now so my thought process is slow-thinking things through. It is going much smoother now but this will take a bit of time-which is really ok with me-part of setting up the loom to weave.
note: correction in video I had said 4 ends per inch-should have said 4 ends per slot-this is set up as 24 epi (ends per inch)

I don't know if there is such a thing as an inexpensive boat. There are just boats that are more expensive than others. This one looks like a beauty. The lakes around us have big boats on them also. I think people use them as camps, cottages, second homes if they can't afford to buy a place, but the boats are crazy priced. But still cheaper than a home at least here. And the boats on the ocean are even bigger. I wonder what size they will get to before a giant boat will be too big. Hope you're having a nice week Kathy.
ReplyDeleteI think the boats can go up to 75 foot. I agree there is no inexpensive boat-Larry's fishing boat was very expensive a new dock is a price of a house. Allot of people with money are moving into Missouri and on this lake do to reasonable price lake homes taxes etc-but that is slowly changing sadly. our realtor told us our home here has greatly gone up in price since we bought it
DeleteYes, those are huge house boats. A person could live in that. I suppose it is the water equivalent of an RV.

DeleteI think I would be tempted to sit and watch the boats and hummingbirds. Of course that wouldn't get the weaving done. I love the colors you are using. i hope you will post a video of the actual weaving. I watch Merle Haggard videos a lot, so it's always fun to see which one will pop up after yours. this time it was merle and connie smith, "A place to fall apart. that's what i need - a place to fall apart. i have a permanent cast on now. It is a nice purple. i will wear it for six weeks. i am marking off the days on my calendar/journal.

Kathy I am so glad to see that you have hummingbirds at your feeder. Ours haven't arrived yet but hopefully they will be here soon. With a view like yours I would have a hard time focusing on indoor activities. Thanks for sharing the great video. Hugs!

DeleteIt sure looks like a complicated process to me. I can see why it takes some thought. A shame that there's no concern for the environment and that they can't just let people live simply rather than always wanting to exploit waterways and make them into moneymakers with high-end properties. My cousin in Michigan lives on the lake which is a no-wake zone. Everyone who goes through has to basically float on by so they aren't causing any damaging wakes.

Have you ever toured the whole lake by boat? Very much think it is a shame that there is more traffic on the lake now and those sort of heavier types of boats. Do they make a lot of noise? Yes with numerous boats out there at peak times in the summer and summer holidays it can be very very noisy out there.
We are so happy to have attracted a pair of hummingbirds once established they and their off spring will return
