I made it back into my craft room this morning. I wanted to make a mixed media page in my journal for flowers and in the process of going through papers, I found an envelope filled with 1800's photos. I had picked those up at a garage sale years ago before retirement when we were living in northern Illinois. The photos were glued down to very heavy card stock.
I found a pretty lady with flowers in her hat and so I went from there.
I gessoed the page first then glued down green tissue paper with glitter, settled for these flowers and tore the edges added the vintage photo-I cut it down, and stamped a couple butterflies.
This is a simple entry but I hope you like it.
This was on the bottom of the photo so added it to the top page

There are a number of themes in this piece, Kathy. It’s wonderful to share it so widely. It’s hard to imagine what was once stylish.

I have a softspot for vintage photos.. photos that have lost their family.. so i buy them when i find them if i can... sometimes they want too much for them.. DeleteCan you image wearing hats like that? It is quite pretty but in today's world it wouldn't work. But it would be nice actually have pretty hats like that. Sometimes that is! ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing lady. I wonder if it was originally a cabinet card that had been taken apart, since it had the heavy cardboard on the back. If it is, you have a fortune on your hands. I would scan them for use rather than using the originals. They could be quite valuable.
It's amazing how styles have changed. Look at the collar on the lady's dress. She is definitely modest and rather Victorian. Of course the hat sets her apart. Thanks for sharing this incredible collage with us at Art Journal Journey, using Mia's theme.

DeletePart of the way you can tell if it's a cabinet card is the size. I think you have some. You should do an internet search.
