T Stands for Tuesday

   Hi Everyone,

Just popping in to say hello to the T Gang and my readers. Thinking many will not post til after the New Year.

I did make a mulled wine for Christmas Eve. I had an open bottle of red wine already. It turned out to have a bit too much nutmeg in it. I used a mulling spice blend that I had-next time I will take out most of the nutmeg. The next day it mellowed out a bit and I added 7 up to it which I liked better

Where the two hummingbird feeders were in the spring and summer I have replaced with two tube seed feeders. At first I put a really pretty ceramic ball with a metal dish on the bottom-the birds didn't seem to like that so yesterday I changed it up. The birds went right to it There is a smaller tube that hangs on the railing but sits down a bit. I would like to find another one of these hangers that swings out like in the photo.

I put in a song bird mix hoping to attract a cardinal

We have been enjoying views of different ducks-diving ducks, loons, etc but they are mostly hanging out in the middle of the lake. Yesterday I caught a photo of the Canada geese and then they flew off-they heard me close the door to the deck This was a very very misty morning

We have been enjoying spring like temperatures with highs in the 50s f and 60s f, we even had a 75 f degree day around Christmas Day

Yesterday I began a deep cleaning-starting with all the wood furniture, which I am continuing today. Larry was working on a project in the basement which created dust that is now circulating through the house-ugh.  I will wash up all the throw rugs too.

This morning I had a taste for hot oatmeal-I added golden raisins, huckleberry honey-which I had brought back from my Yellowstone trip in 2017, and a splash of half and half.

This morning I got out the French Press for my decaf coffee today.

and for those of you that missed my posts of the amaryllis blooming last week,  I am sharing them again here-it is still very pretty with all four blooms-we enjoyed the blooms all Christmas week and still enjoying it

Happy New Week everyone and Happy New Year's Eve and New Year's Day-Have you any plans for New Year's Eve?  I am wondering if the person across the lake from us will do a fireworks display-hoping so.

  3. The cardinals love plain sunflower seeds. A pair do visit here for song bird mix, but not as well as I've seen for the no shell sunflower seeds. A bit of walnut pieces now and then is nice.
Mother told me they prefer the ground. Maybe a wood tray or plastic dish on the deck weighed down with a rock?

    1. Hi I agree with you cardinals do love ground feeding over feeders. At the woods home every day I would throw out on the ground cracked corn and plain sunflower seeds-we would get many many cardinals back then. we were just talking about that too-figuring out a tray of some sort of feed the cardinals and blue jays-which I have yet to see here at the lake.

  4. Your feeder looks great. I've never seen any like that until I saw yours on your deck. So glad the birds now like the "improved" feeder. Loved seeing the Canadian geese. They are everywhere, I believe. Nice photos of the lake and the geese flying away.

Your oatmeal with that incredible honey sounds great. Gosh, now I'm hungry. I need to find something sweet. Oh wait, I have something sweet I can eat. Not the same as yours, though.

I love seeing your mulled wine. It looks perfect to me. And so glad you are enjoying your decaf. I'll join you with some leaded, though.

Thanks for sharing your lovely amaryllis, your geese, the feeder, your mulled wine, and your decaf coffee with us for T this almost Tuesday, dear Kathy. Now I must finish my own post and get something to eat.

    1. Hi Elizabeth I think you are right that the Canadian geese are very plentiful everywhere. I enjoy them here at the lake and don't feed them corn here either-they make such a mess.
the wine smelled and tasted pretty good-I liked the oranges in it too.
Go get something to eat-hugs Happy T

  5. Watching the Canadian geese fly up from the pond was a great delight for our youngest grandson. Of course there was a great thrashing of wings and a very loud honking as they did so.

I worked hard cleaning the house after Thanksgiving and then gave it another going over before Christmas. Now, I am pretty much done with it until spring. I love cleaning; wish I could come help you with the wood (and to watch the birds on the lake) :~) My sister loves her mulled spice mix but she doesn't have me hooked on it yet. It does smell so good, though.

    1. I bet your grandson really enjoyed the geese flying off the pond.
That's what I am doing now really working hard to do a deep clean as we go into winter. we have our Wisconsin friends coming down end of January so hopefully just a little bit before they visit.
I want to try the mulled wine again with less spices-it's nice warm too

  6. I can't believe all the temperature extremes around the country this month. I spoke today with my good friend in North Carolina and she's been warm too. We had ice and snow with some more to come tonight. I've never had mulled wine before, but I bet it makes a nice evening drink as long as there isn't too much nutmeg. Smile. Sounds like you might not need a warm drink to warm you up, but even so, you can never go wrong with a warm drink. Have a happy T day and last week of 2021. If you don't post again, have a happy new year too. Hugs-Erika

    1. Yes it's seems the western states with mountains like Yellowstone area are getting hammered with snow as is your area and then midwest not so much.
I think the mulled wine would be perfect for cold wintry day, even just warmed up wine with no spices would be good. Happy T hugs

  9. LOL. This made me laugh straight away!!!
I years ago misspelled the wine and to English readers it came our as "donkey". Thankfully I was corrected instantly and laughed my head off.
    Ehhh-ahhh!
Never made this myself! "Boiler-Plate" for next Christmas! Thank you!

    Birds can be "picky"!

Oh, your view. So pretty. Thank you so much for sharing!

Sneezes to your dust from wooden floors...

You!!! I keep finding food as old ;-)

    And that flower, awwwww....

  10. Oh those amaryllis are gorgeous! Thank you for showing them to us. I love them too. Yours had four flowers. Wow!
Great to see the geese too. Quaker Oats are the best. Officially oats are gluten free, but often are processed in the same factory as non gluten free, so it's good you can get the properly gluten free. We have oats at least once a week. We like to start the day with them as they are slow burning carbs, so we don't get hungry for a long time.
The mulled wine sounds lovely. I have bought a spice mix for mulled wine but we haven't had the chance to have any, as hubby has been ill. Perhaps for New Year's Eve....
    Happy T-Day,
    Lisca

    1. Good morning Lisca, I shared the amaryllis especially for you today-we have so enjoyed these pretty blooms for over a week now-and surprised to get 4 blooms from a new bulb.
I agree about the oats they also get contaminated if grown near wheat fields as well. Quaker oats are the best
I felt so bad reading your post about your husband being ill for Christmas-good that he could stay home though.
I would make the mulled wine again just less spices Happy T

  12. I enjoy bird-watching, too :) The cardinals haven't been as frequent this year as usual, so you're not alone in trying to attract them. I actually eat my oatmeal dry. I sometimes mix it with all bran and raisins, making a kind of trail mix. French press is one of my go-to coffee makers. I see you found a way to keep it warm :) We need coffee cozies to be as common as tea cozies are. Your amaryllis is gorgeous!

We stay in on New Year's Eve, but there's usually somebody doing fireworks that we can see from our patio door. I hope you get a display to enjoy.

    Happy T Tuesday!

You are right we need a cozy for our French Press's maybe I will make one
that's awesome you can see fireworks from your patio door. I always loved fireworks and the person across the lake is a professional so I really enjoy his shows.
we always stay in too Happy T

  14. I use a Pennington Songbird Mix and their Fruit and Nut blend which I find at Walmart. The cardinals plus all the others: blue jays, chickadees, snowbirds, gold finches all seem to love the food. I haven't had luck with other brands. Your amaryllis are beautiful. Happy T Day,
