Still in the 90's here-no surprise really for this area of Missouri. On years when we have had a very hot summer-like this year-then it will remain warm in September even til mid October sometimes.
It is cooler in the mornings-which feels good, the black walnuts are falling all over the place, the number of those little hummingbirds have increased this week-as those that have started migrating have found my feeders.
I am relieved I passed my vehicle inspection so I could buy new stickers for my plates for my car. I had no safety issues, but I am having two things that need to be fixed, and wasn't sure if that would effect the inspection-it didn't. I wasted a month on one place in the town over from me. When I would check back each week about the part, he tells me he will check on it. Never once called me back about the part I need-or gave me an estimate on new tires for Larry's vehicle. So am done with that nonsense. I found someone closer to where I live for the inspection and they also do auto work-his daughter does the maintenance type work they told me and I am to call back this week-so am pleased so far-very friendly staff, and they had a huge friendly dog checking everyone out lol
I drove on to the county seat (where the Wal mart big box store is too) and got my renew stickers for my plates. I asked the clerk how soon can I get my new drivers license as it expires next month-oh right now if you want to. Wow so I studied what I needed to real quick and now have a new drivers license coming. That was a good morning for me-haha.
I found this pretty photo on Pinterest
On a bummer note I baked us up a batch of gluten free chocolate chip cookies last night-and discovered my oven does not work-temperature too hot for what it is set for and doesn't hold a temperature lower either-sigh. I was able to get the cookies baked with only the first batch a bit too brown. Such a bad time of the year not to have a working oven. For now I will just deal with it as we have projects going that are more important.
I have been back to working on the rock project again-being careful-no carrying the rocks so far. I had an area where I needed to dig through the soil looking for concrete chunks and rocks-and ended up with a huge pile. So many rocks to get moved though-I will get it done-just much slower than I had anticipated for this project-I thought by now I would be ordering plants and getting them in the ground. Larry tells me I am Old now-thanks Larry haha
Enjoy the rest of your week-are you ready for fall too.
Oh I received some very fun happy mail last week from Iris-I will post photos soon. Thank you Iris.
I’m also ready for Fall. I hope it’s a crisp cool one! I started feeling the effects of aging more acutely once I entered my seventies. It seems I’ve always felt that way about entering every new decade. I’m only 2 years shy of 80 now, and I’m wondering what I will notice them! The Fall photo is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI have to say this is the first year I feel my body really aging on me-and I will be 72 next month. I had noticed unwanted weight gain in my early 60's that was a real struggle for me. Lost allot of weight a couple years ago, but always wanted to lose 5 more pounds.
DeleteWe've finally got nice temperatures and crisp nights. They are good for sleeping. And doing lots of yard work. I'm also ready for fall. Sorry to hear about your oven, but hurrah for license working out. Sounds like life has been busy. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteyes we have been busy despite the very hot summer this year-that is a bummer about my oven as I enjoy baking allot when it gets cooler. I would just bake in my dutch ovens outdoors but that area is not set up for that yet-I may just do that though
DeleteThat's very beautiful Fall photo. I am too ready for the cooler weather. It looks so nice when everything looks bright orange outside.
ReplyDeletethank you-I fell in love with this photo too. I love the fall colors too
DeleteStill over 100 F every day here, but it's 89 F at 7:00 a.m. so that's a good sign. Actually feels cool to us after a summer of temperatures reaching 120 and up. I had to get a new stove a couple of months ago because the broiler (which I use a lot) and one burner went out on the old one that we had for a very long time. The closer to home you can take care of necessary business, the better. Take care.
ReplyDeletethat would be way too hot for me-120. we had a month of 100's plus humidity-that was enough for me-hugs
Deletethis is electric stove which I never was crazy about, but not ready for the gas set up for gas stove just yet. I think the appliances here at the lake home had some age to them--stay cool
Hi Kathy, please be careful with those rocks, don't hurt yourself. Glad you found a new place to bring your car, that's bad when people just ignore you. And good that you got your new license so easily. Have a great week, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeletethank you Valerie I learned my lesson-a month of barely being able to walk up and down the stairs to get to my car or to the mail box-I will figure something out for moving these rocks.
DeleteI shouldn't have waited over a month-he was on vacation one week, when I stopped in about it-hopefully this will be an easy fix.
OMGosh. You brought back some incredible memories of vehicle inspection in MO. That is something I definitely DO NOT MISS! I remember the woes I had when I had to remove my window tinting from my side windows in my car. The only time a car is inspected in KS is if you move here like I did or if you buy a new/different car.
ReplyDeleteI also remember you had to take a written test to get your driver's license in MO. They had stupid questions like how many tickets can you get in a year and not have your license revoked. Lots of questions about points. They should have focused more on the driving aspect, like how far behind another car you should stay in order to stop safely.
In KS, you only take a written test the first time you get a license. Like when I moved from MO to KS, I had to take a written AND a driving test. Now all I do is go in with the proper materials and pass my vision test. I had to do that this year (OOPs, 2020) and I told the lady I had to put my glasses on for the eye test. I told her I didn't care if I ever drove again, as long as I could vote. You need a valid current license to vote in KS.
Oh the memories.
I think we will be under 100 today (Wed). It rained awhile ago, but it's now very humid and sticky. I hope it cools for you. This summer the heat has been brutal.
Hi Elizabeth, this is the first state I have lived in that requires vehicle inspections on older cars mine is a 1999 mercury mountaineer. Missouri must have eased up on the drivers license test-now we just get a vision test, and have to get all of the signs right except for one. so it was really fast and easy.
DeleteBack in the 70s when I was living in colorado they had a very difficult test, you had to pretty much memorize most of the book-and they asked some really bad questions. on my third try I told the people-I am not dumb, I know how to drive, know the road signs and rules but this test is built to fail-he passed me the 3rd time. wondering how long it took them to change it. Illinois had difficult written tests too. and the new place we go to now is in a very old building-like their courthouse-very small and never a line and soooo friendly and happy people working there I love it.
I will be so happy when the high temps and humidity go away. we are suppose to get a little rain today-we'll see as we get missed allot of times
When I lived there in the 80s, EVERY car had to have a vehicle inspection every year before you got your sticker. I had a brand new car, and the first year I got the sticker because it was brand new from the dealer. The second year, I had to have it inspected. It was less than a year old, but still needed an inspection. Back then it was EVERY car, not just older ones. Maybe they have changed the rules since I lived there.
DeleteYes they must have changed the rules at some point. they have been trying to get rid of these inspections but so far we still have them-I can see it for older cars mine is 1999
DeleteI have the same issue here with the guys doing the service charge settlement. 5 e-mails and now I wait likely all day for the "promised" phone call.
ReplyDeleteDrivers licences expire?!
Shoot with the oven.
I hate the dark half of the year... but the pic and blog-background is nice indeed.
Wow, you´re welcome, now that was snail-snail mail!
yes we have to go in every 4-6 years here in Missouri as we age I think we have to go back every 4 years-yes I am bumbed about the oven. we had planned to replace the whole stove one day since it is old and I would rather have a gas stove-but that needs to wait awhile. I will check into the part and see the price and what a hassle it is.
Deletesometimes mail goes super slow and sometimes right through-hugs
That is such a beautiful Fall photo! I love the Autumn colours!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your oven - mine stopped working completely in June but at least we could BBQ!

Hi thank you for visiting. yes I am bumbed about the oven especially now going into fall and winter. there is allot one can do in a slow cooker, and I may just set up a spot to bake pies over and under coals in my dutch oven outdoors.
Deletebeautiful photo! 🍁
ReplyDeleteWell, some good news and some not so good. Problems with an oven is not to be taken lightly for someone like you who loves to cook. But, I am glad to know your car passed inspection and that your new driver’s license is on the way. I am long overdue an eye exam, so need to jump on that before I end up failing my driving exam. I am not surprised that you are back to work on your landscaping project. Please take care and don’t overdo. I have been on a kind of blogging break while I try to catch up on a big cleanup, inside and out.
