Tuesdays we gather for T(ea) over at Bleubeard and Elizabeth's blog. Anyone is welcome to join in just share a drink related photo.
The first full week of the new year is upon us. Here in Missouri so far it has been very cold, ice around me, and a bit of snow-just enough to say we got snow.
If you missed it I shared in my last post a look back at my art and crafts in 2020-find here
We never go out for New Year's eve-although for several years when our friend Lilburn was still with us he put on a huge shrimp boil and everyone brought a dish. Since his passing I now do a shrimp boil for the two of us.
Over the holiday weekend I did make a couple desserts-keto churned chocolate mint ice cream and a keto NY style cheesecake.
The ice cream was keto but I did bring out a couple toppers with sugar, I had picked up these vintage ice cream dishes for one of our anniversaries
The tv programs I did not enjoy at all for New Year's Eve this year, but I did get to sit in front of those big windows and watch fireworks for an hour-directly across from me on the lake. They must have been bundled up well, as it was very cold and raining.
I opened up a bottle of wine for me, my husband never stays up til midnight and I had brought up some of the hand dipped chocolate fruits that were stored in the freezer earlier in the day. The little glass is handmade porceline pottery, it's perfect if I just want a little of something.
It has been cold, foggy, and just very dreary outdoors for the past week or so. Over the weekend I drove to the hardware store for some things my husband needed and Wow once I got out of our lake area and up on to the main road-Wow ice everywhere-except the road-I drove through a winter wonderland-everything-trees, bushes, grass etc all covered in ice. It was like that all the way to the hardware store. Very errie. I later learned this city had lost their electric for awhile. I never think to bring my camera along.
We thought we were seeing ice across the lake from us and it was. Our little area got missed.
Here are photos I took from our lake house over the last few days
Delicious looking cake.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really good keto cheesecake
DeleteYummy food, warm “fire”, just relaxing and praying for a much better year!
ReplyDeleteMe as well, I am counting down to January 6th
DeleteThat looks so snug and cosy there by the fire and a nice slice of cheesecake and a hot cup of tea including a good book is my kind of relaxation. Just perfect! Absolutely wonderful the views across the lake from your house. Mind you lt certainly looks cold and damp out there. I bet those birds really appreciate your bird house when the weather gets tough. keep well Amanda x
ReplyDeleteThis is my comfy spot too in the colder months we can't burn a real fire here as we discovered the previous owner had a major chimney fire-we would like to get that fixed though
DeleteToo bad you don't live close by. I would be right on over to help you out with that bottle of Yellow Tail. I would consider it my civic duty!
ReplyDeletelol that is a bummer-I would gladly share a glass of the Yellow Tail with you and you would enjoy the birds and the eagles
DeleteYour view is incredible!
ReplyDeletethank you-when we moved out of our woods I said I have to have a view-lol
DeleteMy favorite of your photos is the one with the chair and luminaries looking out over the lake. That is exactly where I would want to be, too! You really do know how to celebrate the holidays! We had a couple of really nasty days too ~ cold and rainy~ but the past couple of days have been much nicer.
ReplyDeleteHi we finally had a warmer afternoon today. all the ice has melted in the trees. I really enjoy the luminaries on these ledges. I am thinking of looking for bags with hearts and flags for other holidays.
Deletethis is a really nice spot to sit indoors.
Now, these photos definitely show a bleak winter, but yet, I still love the atmosphere. And of course, the staying cozy with crackling fire on TV, a good book, wine, and a treat to enjoy with it is a lovely way to deal with winter! Happy T day!
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda
DeleteOh, my goodness, you have made me hungry with all those fabulous food photos! LOL We do have a fabulous cheesecake in the freezer that my sis sent us for Christmas. :)
ReplyDeleteLovely, cold looking photos on the lake. Happy New Year! Happy T Day!
Hi Sharon Happy New Year and Happy T
DeleteThe cheesecake, tea and hand dipped fruit looks delicious! What a great way to start the new year.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures of the snow are beautiful. What a great view to wake up too.
Happy Tea Day,
Kate
Hi Kate, Thanks we really enjoy our views
DeleteYour new years sounds like mine. We had a nice dinner but couldn't find anything good to watch on tv. We watched an ok movie and then I fell asleep. Lucky you to have fireworks to watch, right from your window. We heard a few but couldn't see any. Oh well. I will take a piece of cheesecake though and a cup of tea. Hope your new year is going well. Happy T day Kathy. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteI was excited to see the fireworks-and they were professional quality.
DeleteThis cheesecake is so good-Happy T
Hi Laurie-so glad you dropped by-hugs
ReplyDeleteYour good looks so good. Great photos, too.Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteThank you Valerie
DeleteYes, the reviews this year were terrible to watch.
ReplyDeleteWe have this wine here, too, cute cup, also and the fireworks must´ve been beautiful.
Bad! You´re like my Hubby, he tells me of things he´s seen and NEVER has his stupid cam with him! These things are small these days, take them along... pretty please! ;-)
Hmmm, fog-lover over here.
Happy T to you and a better New Year!
I usually enjoy the music for new year's eve but not this year guess I am getting too old now haha
DeleteI never think to bring my camera when I am out and about. the fog is beautiful here over the lake
I realize it's not that funny, but I had to laugh at how you kept insisting you didn't get any ice, then you got on the road and encountered it. Welcome to my world, dear (grin). I think lots of people lost power when the ice came. Crews worked round the clock to get us up and running again. It didn't matter what was on tv on New Year's Day, because I couldn't have seen it, anyway. I was busy staying under the covers with my boys trying to keep warm.
ReplyDeleteYou have given us a cornucopia of drink choices today, and you have made me very hungry, too. Lots of sweets to choose from. I may get diabetes just looking at all these sweet treats.
Fireworks started here about 11 pm and lasted for over an hour and a half. My neighborhood has someone who likes to shoot them off and they are LOUD, too. So glad you got to enjoy yours on the lake. I remember when I was in CA one year, I got to be on a sailboat on the water when the fireworks went off. There is something truly magical about fireworks over water. Not sure if it's due to the reflection on the water or what, but it is SO much different and better.
Thanks for sharing all your sweets, your yellowtail, and your strawberry tea with us for T this Tuesday, dear Kathy.
I know we had no idea there was so much ice all around us-our little circle here around the lake had no ice at all.
DeleteI agree fireworks over water is really special. when we were kids our family took us for a long weekend in Milwaukee to see the circus parade on for 4th of July and the awesome fireworks on boats in the lake-I will always remember that.
the ice cream and cheesecake have no sugars in them except for the toppers-so that helps-lol
Happy T
Ice storms are the nastiest and worse to drive in. Glad you made the roads ok. All the treats you made look wonderful though I'll save the ice cream for Summer as I don't like ice cream when the weather is cold outside. Fireworks over the lake must have been beautiful and nice that you had a cozy spot to watch them from. Looks cold on the lake though the ducks don't seem to mind. They remind me of the 7 swans a-swimming and now I have an ear worm 😺 Happy T Day!
ReplyDeleteHi CJ Yes I was super glad that all the roads were clear and safe to drive on. We eat ice cream in the summer time mostly too-but I made a few treats over the holidays.
Deletethe fireworks are really beautiful over water-and I love fireworks. we less boats we see more ducks and geese now on the water which is fun to watch. Happy T
All that snow/ice stopped long before it got this far. We got rain *sigh* I had a bottle of Yellow Tail wine once, bought coz I loved the label. Your chocolate-covered fruit looks delicious! And that cheesecake would suit me fine :) Your lake photos are breath-taking, and the luminaries look perfect for the new year. Happy T Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteWe are suppose to get some rain tonight and get up to 45 degrees today and tomorrow-a heat wave haha.
DeleteThe Yellow tail is a good tasting wine too. Thank I loved the luminaries too for New Years
Kathy, Your cheesecake looks perfectly delicious. Dreary or sunny, your lake view photos are beautiful. I agree that television shows on New Year's Eve were not enjoyable. The few I looked at were too racy night club for my general TV audience tastes.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you I turned it off after about 20 minutes. pretty sad.
Deletewe are enjoying all of these lake views-it changes every day
The NYE shows were absolute rubbish. I later learned there was a good local one but that was the next day.
ReplyDeleteCrazy, we are on Lake Ontario had have not had a decent snowfall nor cold.
before retirement we lived on the wisconsin-illinois border and the local nye's shows were really awesome and enjoyable.
Deleteno real snowfall here yet either. we are known for allot of ice
I don't envy your wintry weather. So glad they had the ice off the roads when you drove to town. Driving on icy roads is nerve wracking. Your holiday treats looks delicious, especially the cheesecake - one of my favorites. I haven't had one for several months, but I also love ice cream sundaes.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't do anything special on New Year's Eve. Because of the dearth of good new TV shows due to COVID, we've been re-watching some old series. Right now - NYPD Blue. Good cast and the show doesn't look dated at all. I guess the writers were ahead of their time.
Wishing you the best in 2021 and a Happy T-day today! Hugs, Eileen
I have been watching allot of older shows too. next weekend they are finally running some newer shows. I like the hallmark mystery shows.
Deletethis is a really good cheesecake recipe I found-no sugar in it, it uses keto sweeteners.
Happy 2021
Your views are very picturesque! I think I might like your gray waterside scape better than our gray landscape! And what a delicious looking cheesecake! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeletethanks-the fog and mist is really beautiful to view over the lake
DeleteYum! what a delicious post ~ Tea, red wine and dark chocolate ~ Ice cream and cheesecake...WOw! your winter scenes and fire place watching makes the blankets you create that much more enticing ~ Blessings on your New Year!
ReplyDeletethank so much-hugs
DeleteIt looks cold by the lake today - brrrr! The sundae looks so yummy and I love your vintage glassware 😀. The cheesecake would go nicely with my cuppa too and your tea set is gorgeous. Happy T Day and wishing you all the best for the New Year! Hugs, Jo x
ReplyDeleteHi Jo its has been very cold here but today (Tuesday) finally a little warmer-feels good. Happy T hugs
DeleteYour chesscake and chocolate covered things look delicious. I'll be right over!
ReplyDeleteIf we were closer-yes come on over-hugs
DeleteWow what a wonderful post. I love all the foodie photos. Yes, ice and fog not a fun combination. Those photos are amazing though. Have a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteGood morning, thank you so much
DeleteI loved seeing your decadent looking desserts! We watched fireworks from our window but I can imagine the ones you saw were far more spectacular as ours were over rooftops! I love your frosty photos and then being warmed by you TV fire!! Belated Happy T Day and Happy New Year! Chrisx
ReplyDeleteHi Chris, glad you got to see fireworks too. we have had some neat views over the lake with the fog Happy New Year-hugs
DeleteOh my! That cheesecake looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
