Larry got his absentee ballot in the mail a few days ago-so he voted, and I drove in to the courthouse to vote. I called and was able to bring his ballot in with me, instead of mailing-I just had to sign some papers. I have always drove in on election day and voted-but I decided to drive in to the courthouse instead early and while the weather is much nicer too.
I was the only one there voting-I drove in early though, so it was really nice. My eyes are getting bad from the dry eye issue so wanted to drive in with less traffic too. This time there were numerous issues to vote on-the only one I said yes to was that only American citizens can vote in our elections here in Missouri-no illegals that the left is pushing-I really don't understand that-they are illegals
The oak trees are fully loaded with acorns. Every day for a couple weeks now they are constantly falling on the roof down to the deck. The floor is totally covered every day-so I just blow them off. Yesterday I got to thinking-what about acorn ink or dye??
So I found a really good ink recipe that I want to make. Only thing is that this needs to be made outdoors do to the odors in the cooking process. I need to figure out a firesafe spot to do that.
Here in this article that I found (I had read several but liked this one the best) she gives options with using the caps too or not. I also found this dye recipe and this was an interesting video by another artist I have lots of my handspun wool that is white-but I am not up to the mordant process (fixative) right now
I grabbed a little paper bag and gathered up a bunch of acorns and caps just now When they fall the caps come off the nut.
I brought my bulbs in too!
ReplyDeleteI need to do that soon before I forget
DeleteYour acorns look so different than ours. We have a red oak.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should swap acorns??? just few. I have dyed wool with comes ours before and it comes out golden brownish.
Cathy
I should look at the leaves to know what oaks these are-the acorns are really large. what mordant do you use for the wool before dying?
DeleteI just looked up what oaks grow here at lake in the ozarks-and said mostly white oak
Deleteyes we could swap some acorns-I will collect some tomorrow
DeleteIllegals voting? What?!
ReplyDeleteNot working, not learning the language, getting a place to live, money AND voting? They´ll never leave.
So far my wood-strawberries survived our mostly mild winters - I hope they will do again - they are plain EVERYWHERE...
Hugs to you and the lake
yes sadly this administration has opened up the borders to let the world in-no vetting or anything so we have criminals drugs and more am glad I live rural-easier to defend ourselves and the liberal states are allowing them to vote-more cheating of course
DeleteI love wild strawberries-are yours the tiny ones?
I think we are finally past most of the acorns dropping at my house. Boy were they loud this year. A couple of times I literally thought there was a deer or a bear stomping through the forest they were so loud. I need to start doing some fall garden clean up. Some sun would help motivated me. Good luck with your acorn clean up and dyeing. And have a great rest of your week Kathy. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteThank you Erika-same here-the acorns were 'raining" down on our metal roof-very loud-I guess this is the year for loads of acorns for the wildlife.
Deletewe are back into the 90's haha craziness but it is cool in the mornings now hugs
Oh i remember the pinecone drop in Arkasas... remember the area was nothing but pine trees... Then down the road they had acorns... so load we could hear them hitting their roof...! I remember thinking how annoying that would be if i lived in that house...lol Mornings have been cool here ...in the 50's most mornings, sometimes 60's but still getting hot during the day...uuugh... that can go away anytime it wants to! Acorn dyeing sounds interesting.. i hope you do it.. AND show us!! Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteWe have a metal roof so the acorns have been very loud. usually this sort of major drop of acorns and nuts forecasts a rough winter-so the animals will have food-we'll see what happens. I may not get to the dye, but I do want to make some ink.
DeletePinecones would be really loud for sure but maybe not as heavy. we are cool in the mornings too and now warming up to the 90's for several days-crazt but I will take that over cold-I have much to do outdoors hugs
OH me too... lots to do outside... I weedeated before sunset last night.... getting close to being caught up but then where i started is starting to get long again... vicious cycle...lol
ReplyDeletethat is where I am at too-finally got the grass cutting done but now I have to re do about half of it again ugh
DeleteGood for you for getting out and voting early! I cannot believe that that proposal is even on the ballot! What the heck!
ReplyDeleteI know I was quite surprised with that on the ballot-but Missouri seems to be pro active-if law in place than takes care of that issue. they also had an amendment to bring back any abortions-Missouri is pretty strict on that as well.
DeleteIt did feel good to vote early this time
Kathy I wish you were at our house...I could gather baskets and baskets of acorns for you. We got cold here too last evening but warm and sunny today. Hope you have a delightful weekend. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThere must be a cold winter coming with this huge drop of acorns
DeleteGlad you were able to vote and Larry too. I would put some of those acorns in a bowl to display, but dying them sounds interesting. Tell us how it comes out. Janice
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a good idea-thanks. I am hoping to make ink on Sunday morning.
