Hi Everyone,
It is time for T for Tuesday where we share a drink related photo in our post, and gather over at Bleubeard and Elizabeth's Find link in my sidebar.
We are having spring like weather with lots of rain and still cool most evenings. I am hoping to start planting more seeds in the "greenhouse bottles" this week-I am actually behind on that do to the very cold nights this month.
Yes, I am till spinning fibers, but over the weekend I got out my two spinning wheels-one is the vintage parlor castle wheel and the other is a Traveler by Ashford that I put together as a kit back in the late '70s.
One of the very few things that I like about Facebook are their groups-They have groups for any interest. Recently I joined a couple cast iron cooking groups and I also found a spinning group. The spinning group has wonderful members on there and have answered many questions for me. My vintage wheel is also a flax wheel and I am beginning to think that the tie up is for flax and that is why I can not get it to feed on to the bobbin properly-it is also a very fast wheel with too much twist. So I need to do some research on that on how to change the tie up. I spent hours with this wheel since Friday. I named my spinning wheels several years ago and couldn't remember for sure what I had named this vintage wheel. I decided since she came from England and that my research shows that this is probably from the 1800's to early 1900's her name will be Miss Elizabeth.
Larry got my Ashford wheel going for me over the weekend-he figured out a tension that I didn't understand before-so I am excited to be able to spin on this one today (Sunday) This is still a learning curve for me-but in the end I feel I will be able to spin nicer yarns. Her name is Miss Ashley
Sorry not many photos this week-as my digital camera has "died" today. sigh. This camera is around 20 years old now and I think she finally did her last photos this morning. I don't use cell phones so I am on the look out for another camera-hard to find now a days since most people use their cell phones for a camera.
I did get this photo just before we started working with the wheels The one in the front is the vintage parlor, and the Ashford is in the back. I had taken some new photos of the wheels today, plus food and drink photos-but the camera quit working after so couldn't down load them-sigh
We are seeing so many birds and water fowl still. Early mornings we hear the loons every morning and sometimes see them. The pelicans are still traveling through, the heron is back, the crows, sea gulls, Canada geese and of course the eagle pair. Lots of birds at the feeder. We scatter food also on the deck as soon as it is light-we are always early risers. Since I bought peanuts all the woodpeckers visit along with a pair of blue jays. I had forgotten how pretty their song is. We also have a dove pair and a cardinal pair.
Have a good week Everyone and Happy T
A sunrise photo from the past
Hi Kathy, glad you had time for spinning, love all your various wheels etc, and you have given thm nice names. Sorry about your camera, but they offer digital cameras on Amazon, for example. Have a happy T Day, enjoy your tea, I'm drinking coffee as I write this! Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeletethank you Valerie, yes I have been exploring amazon-lots to read about the cameras to see how they download the photos etc.
DeleteI have been really enjoying my time with spinning-now to start on outdoor work and planting seeds this week in the bottles
The tea sounds really nice. I haven't had white tea in a long while..need to get some soon. The sunrise shot looks amazing, Kathy.
ReplyDeletethank you-we get such lovely sunrises here
DeleteIf we lived close by we would meet... my spinning wheel is on the floor - I bought it new from a manufactory near Berlin and they only make spinning wheels... Crafts so lovely... love it . I wish you lots of fun spinning... and further processing the wool.
ReplyDeleteHug Viola
How fun, you could purchase your wheel direct from company. Happy spinning to you too Hugs
Deleteps that would be awesome to meet-and share our love for spinning. do you weave or knit?
DeleteYou've been busy Kathy. I think I could watch all those birds with your tea in the morning or afternoon, and I would enjoy the sky too. That tea sounds delicious by the way. I have some strawberry black tea which is a great tea when I want to think of spring or it is spring. And your spinning looks fun too. I was speaking with a friend about clutter yesterday and she asked me if I wanted her spinning wheel. I took a pass as I don't need any more hobby paraphernalia. But truthfully it was pretty tempting. Have a great early T day and week ahead. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteGood morning, that is quite an offer -her spinning wheel-many of the newer ones are very expensive too-I hope she finds a good home for hers.
Deletewe really have enjoyed the bird watching here at the lake-and we are close to them too feeding on the deck.
This is a lovely tea Happy T hugs
Happy Spinning! They are good looking spinning wheels. Love the blue color, like a robin's egg nest.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week
Thanks that blue yarn I spun around 2017 I can't seem to get that wheel working right again not sure why Happy new week
DeleteBeautiful view.
ReplyDeletethank you, it is pretty here
DeleteThose are beautiful spinning wheels, Kathy. I'm glad Larry was able to adjust the tension. Just wonderful that you have found that group to help you, too.
ReplyDeleteSorry to read about your camera. My camera is my right arm, since I don't have a cell phone. I don't buy anything on the internet because I fear I might get hacked, but my friend Scott got me two new Nikon cameras on amazon. He bought one as a gift and I paid for the other. Expect to pay anywhere from $70.00 to $150.00 for a GOOD camera there. I have a thing for Nikon, but Sally prefers Canon. I know lots of friends who do, too. They are cheaper, I think.
It's been forever since I had white tea. It's great you had a chance to sort your teas and now they are right in front of you. As always, I adore that Yellowstone mug. Thanks for sharing your spinning wheels and your tea with us for T this week, dear.
BTW, I have gotten the Sketchbook Revival lessons, but haven't had a chance to even open the e-mails. I think there is a time frame and it doesn't last very long. Karen wants you to join the paying Revival.
Hi Elizabeth, I am not mechanical at all or a puzzle type person that can figure things out. I am so happy to have Miss Ashley spinning again-it has been a long time. we will get Miss Elizabeth going too just haven't figured something out-another tension possibly.
Deletethis one was a GE and has served me well I think way back when I bought it-was around $100.00 I need to do some more searching the nikons I looked at so far are really expensive, will look into canon too.
The white tea was nice-I have two different ones from this company and they both have different fruits in them..
I have not opened up my Sktechbook Revival emails either-just have not had the extra time. I need to go look at them and see when they expire.
Happy T
I paid $150.00 for my Nikon. It uses 4 AA batteries and I love it. The one Scott bought me was about $90.00. Same look, but less functions.
DeleteTo answer your question, I am a lousy host (and a lousy cook, too). All Sharon got were tea and cookies. I had NO idea we were going to spend over 8 hours making art, or I would have bought subs or maybe had a fruit plate.
oh I like the idea of AA batteries instead of the fancy one in the camera I had-never could find where to buy one of those either so I called the company GE and then sent me out one for free.
DeleteWow 8 hours that means you both had fun making art-I think I would have needed a bread for a little something-cheese and cracker and fruit plate sounds good too-next time you'll be ready hugs
Happy T! Cute spinning wheel.
ReplyDeletethank you
DeleteKathy, I can feel your excitement about the spinning wheeles. I love that you have something you are so passionate about. I got tired of FB and deactivated my account a while back. I just don't have time and really don't want to be on the PC all day. However, the groups I belonged to were fabulous with some very nice people. Have a great day today.
ReplyDeletethank you so much-I have wanted to do more spinning and weaving, but something always seems to call me away-time to spin this year for sure.
DeleteI really do not like fb at all-and they love to censor us that don't agree with their views and agendas-I spend very little time there now except for my groups.
enjoy your day
I think that white tea sounds good. Is white tea real tea? :) I am glad Larry got your spinning wheel going. And I agree with you about the groups on Facebook. I am in several and I don't pay any attention to anything else on Facebook. Just check in with my groups, and I am off. LOL Happy T Day.
ReplyDeleteyes white tea is a real tea I forget what stage in the drying process it is. I can't do caffeine any more so white teas and greens are super low or a buy decaf green teas too.
Deletethat is what I am doing now too on fb-visiting my groups-with great people in them- or visit a couple friends.
I love your spinning wheels! The neatest thing about them is that you really use them. It’s great that you have accomplished so much with your spinning before warmer days call you outside. Mary @ Hilltop Post
ReplyDeletethank you Mary-I had gotten so frustrated with them in the past-and way back I didn't have a teacher or the internet haha. I must get some seeds planted in the bottles this week for sure and I grass is growing already too with all the rain-need to do that tomorrow if we don't get rain hugs
DeleteThe lake is soooooo pretty! I agree that facebook has some great groups and so glad you found some that are perfect for you. All your weaving is so impressive - the more you tell and show, the more impressed I am. Great looking tea too. Hugz
ReplyDeleteGood morning, thank you so much. I follow several Yellowstone Park photography groups-so beautiful and uplifting. to view The groups are the only reason I stay on there Happy T
DeleteMiss Elizabeth - now that is fitting!
ReplyDelete"Shoot" to your camera! I also use digital cameras, cell only if if I have to.
Here you still can buy heaps of cams.
The tea sounds yummy.
Birds... that sure means Spring and what a wonderful parting shot! Happy T-day and hugs
I think Elizabeth is what I named the vintage wheel from England originally. Yep bummer-still searching online for camera that is not super expensive.
DeleteThis was a nice tea. Yes spring is in the air here for sure-and finally warmer weather at night. Happy T hugs
The Internet is an amazing place. Like a huge library, anything you want to know or learn about is right at your fingertips. As mentioned on my blog the Sketchbook Revival videos will be available until Apr. 20., but I think you already noted that.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I learn allot of things on the internet-I try to use the computer mostly for learning. Yes I was so glad you mentioned about the 20th was the last day to access the classes. Hoping I can start in another week or so.
DeleteIf your spinning fiber i know your happy Kathy! I sure do miss all the birds in Arkansas! I did see a RoadRunner walk across the yard the other day.. They are alot bigger bird than you might think.. Happy T day! Thank you for your kind words on the Stock Show! Fingers crossed! Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteSpinning and weaving does make me happy-hugs we saw a king fisher on our dock walkway this morning, seems like the loons are sticking around we see them every morning now and we saw a pair of pelicans swim by our dock-fun. let us know the results-hugs
DeleteHi Kathy, there are many digital cameras on offer. I wouldn't buy it on Amazon though - I got all my cameras from B&H, they are so knowledgable and have fair prices. I visited their store in NYC once, what a place! https://www.bhphotovideo.com/
ReplyDeleteSketchbook Revival is open until the end of April I think, and so far Karen extended the period every year a bit further. I kind of expect that she would do it this year as well.
thank you for the link for a camera I will check it out, I just need simple and not real expensive-the camera I had I think was a little around 100.00 and did me well.
Deletethanks about sketchbook revival CJ says it is open til april 20 will see if I have time-lots going on now that it has warmed up
We had a frost warning last night, past the date of last frost here. So strange! Your views are always gorgeous! Happy belated T Tuesday
ReplyDeletewe had frost last night too-it was very cold this morning a thick frost on the deck. thank you we love the views-allot of issues with the house but the views make up for it
DeleteBeautiful sunrise photo!
ReplyDeleteI would have thought you'd be able to get a secondhand camera because as you say, people are using their cell phones more nowadays so people might be getting rid of their cameras....
Happy T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca
Hi Lisca, I did see some expensive digital cameras that were used and marked down-but not sure about those. looking for quality inexpensive camera-still looking haha
DeleteHave not read the rest of the comments yet - but before I forget - I joined Sketchbook Revival and have been enjoying it every day. I do believe the segments will remain until sometime in April. The info should be on the main page/first email you got.
ReplyDeleteSpinning is fiber magic to me so I look forward to seeing what you come up wth.
thank you the last day is April 20 I am enjoying spinning I am spinning up a different colors wools for a rauna
DeleteSuper post
ReplyDeleteGreat post Kathy! Your spinning wheel is beautiful.
ReplyDeletethank you so much
DeleteThat sunrise photograph is lovely.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
It is nice to read about spinning wheel. And I love your sunrise photo as well. It is with amazing sky. I am sorry to hear about what happened to your camera. Hope you will find a new one soon. I used digital camera before, but with mobile phone, now I take most of my photos from the phone. This tea sounds delicious with strawberry and guava flavor.
ReplyDeleteSorry for my late T-comment as I had issue with blogger commenting.
Have a great day!
good morning Amila, so glad you were able to stop by. we have lovely sunrises here on the lake. this white tea with fruits was very nice. I did find a camera after much searching-should arrive sometime next week Have an awesome day too!
