Avocado Ink Part 2-Love the Results

I know it's 2 am here in the morning-but since I couldn't sleep, perfect time to finish up making the avocado ink. Also Larry needs the kitchen sink for turkey early  morning to rinse off the brine and spices and get it in the smoker.

I am very very pleased with the results of this ink. I did just warm it up a bit before straining.

After all strained, I added 1/2 teaspoon of gum arabic,  5 drops of wintergreen essential oil-stirred and poured into the bottles with one whole clove per bottle I have read pros and cons of storing botanical inks in the frig so choosing to store in a cool area in a box away from light in the closet in my craft room.

I ordered a case of 24 of these 4 ounce bottles and got them in this week. I wanted screw cap lids and wanted 4 ounce jars as I think I will be ending up with around a cup or a bit less of ink for each recipe.  These will be nice to work with and won't tip over.

Of course I Had to try the ink to see the color-I am very happy with the end results

Oh and I did rinse out and save the coffee filter. It will be a bit lighter once dried but a soft color

  3. I also love the ink color! Your pen is a beautiful treasure as well. Will you offer the ink for sale? The dried coffee filter has artistic possibilities! You are amazing being able to do this in the middle of the night!!!

    1. I know haha it was on my mind I think to see the results, so when I woke up I just finished making it. No not for sale just for fun-this can be used like watercolor paints too, and will use these botanical inks to write slow mail letters to friends. Yes I am remembering to rinse those out and dry for mixed media art

  9. Oh, you, too? I hate when I am awake in those cold winter nights so much so I get up! Brrrr...
At least you did some magic before the turkey-preparations (ohhh, can I come over? I never had turkey!!!)

I am still fascinated by that pen (but, hell, no, I will not fall for it, I´d break it in a minute...)

The filter looks like it´s going into an art-project, too?

    1. Yes if you lived close I would invite to the lake to try out some of this brined smoked turkey-anxious to see what it will taste like.
I really enjoy writing with these pens-this is the one that just broke in half for no reason-did get a refund for it. Love the fine tip on this one and it is light weight too.
Yes saving these filters for journal pages this one dried really pretty

  11. This turned out great. You got good color and coverage, too. I would use mine as a dye, but I am glad you got good color and coverage, too. I am glad you are using this as ink for your pens. Most impressive results, especially the coffee filter.
