This week we have enjoyed all sorts of birds visiting us here at the lake. Yesterday while working outdoors I spotted a pair of pileated woodpeckers up in the trees above me-that was very cool. This morning just as it got light we already had a hummingbird visitor passing through and lots and lots of fishing boats. Must be a fishing tournament this weekend.
We kept hearing lots of geese but didn't see them, they must have been in the cove to the right of us. Here is a video I just took. The last boat in the video ended up being our neighbors boat to the right of us-where allot of geese were "hanging out"-they had to wait for them to clear out before they could dock
Here is a photo of a pileated woodpecker -photo found online- I didn't have my camera with me
I'm surprised I still have hummingbirds. I wonder if that means our cold temperatures are still several weeks away. and don't you just love the pileated woodpeckers Kathy? Have a great weekend. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteYes we are getting migrating hummingbirds here I believe now. we had a mean one that fought for both feeders-he seems to have left now.
DeleteYes I was so thrilled to learn we have pileated woodpeckers here-we enjoyed them at our woods home. I love them too Happy weekend

ReplyDeletethis was a large flock for sure
Deletewow so many geese! Are pileated woodpeckers different from regular woodpeckers?
ReplyDeleteHi Angie yes they are very different-I will share a photo in my blog post-don't see how to add it here in comments

ReplyDeleteHi Valerie, glad you enjoyed the video-the lake has sense gotten very very busy-must be do the really warm weather here still-Happy weekend-hugs
DeleteI think those mean hummingbirds are here now! Most of our regulars this summer were pretty laid back, but these newcomers are right down mean. I love the video! Such a peaceful time of day. I hope the geese are a signal that there’s a change in the weather coming.
ReplyDeleteWe had one hummingbird-that would fly out from under the deck and chase away all the hummers from both feeders-he was Not nice haha even did that do the youngsters. this was a very large group of geese too a couple hours later the lake went bonkers-ocean boats, speed boats, and crazy people haha
DeleteWe enjoy woodpeckers of all kinds here in southern NJ too. They are beautiful birds and amazing with their “drumming” on surfaces. On the trees is fine where they peck for food, but this year we had to find a way to chase them from our rain gutters. It was deafening at 6:00 am!
ReplyDeletethat could be loud-probably looking for bugs
DeleteIt's just about 1:30 a.m. and I thought I saw something moving around on my front porch. While outside, I wondered if I had gotten any mail while I was at the museum. I had checked before I went, but not after because I had a real surprise when I got home. More on that later. However, suspect you have guessed what I am going to write next. I haven't opened it yet, but I will show it for T this week and a couple of things my shopaholic friend Kathy left for me while I was at the museum. They reminded me of you, so it's a double Kathy day for T this week.
ReplyDeletethat's awesome-I love surprises in my mailbox too-hugs
DeletePileated woodpeckers are neat to see. They do make a lot of noise, and a big pile of wood where they carve out a nest. Amazing is the size of the wood chips they make.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing these birds too-very majestic
DeleteHello there! I loved your video. I guess you have to get used to the boat noise-but I sure love the quiet and peacefulness of your lake. And of course, the geese!
ReplyDeleteYes and its mostly late fridays, all day saturdays, and sometimes sunday mornings during the summer or big events or holidays-so not bad-
