I had one of those nights that I didn't sleep real well, so was in "space zone" this morning.
I decided to grab my watercolor pencils along with the water brushes I bought-I really love those, and try one more go with that sunrise photo I had painted in acrylics twice.
I also bought watercolor papers to use instead of my mixed media papers. I am thinking watercolors might be my painting "calling" I ordered some watercolor paints to try and also because I signed up for the class Eileen suggested. That class looks fun, it was super discounted so could afford to buy the watercolor paints. Our Wal mart only has the kids paints and those are pretty bad.
I still can't mix up the right purplish color for the water especially-but I enjoyed this painting. I did forget to use chalk instead of pencil for marking out a couple lines-none of my erasers took that off. This is still just for practice and learning
I am joining in with Paint Party Friday
Beautiful painting Kathy, well done! Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you found your paint calling Kathy! I find acrylics a challenge.. but one i intend to master... or well... if not master at least be able to paint something decent with it.. lol Love your painting my friend.. Hugs! deb
ReplyDeletethank you so much Deb, I still have lots of acrylic paints so will still play with those-just need to remember that it dries so fast. the colors are always so bold too-

DeleteIt's wonderful that you are exploring what different media can do. Each one has such different outcomes, and some can really stretch your brain! I've found watercolor to be like that-I love it but I'm afraid of it! That's nutty. You certainly have done so well, and you have a good grasp on colors. I like this a lot.
ReplyDeleteThank you Debra, I think I get my color sense from my Mom-she was always excellent at it and I have been told I was really good with color when choosing fabrics for quilts. My Grandma on my father's side was very talented she would paint the grain of wood-and looked real when she was done so good genes I am thinking haha
DeleteThis is gorgeous!
ReplyDeletethank you Christine
DeleteLovely colours, keep going.
ReplyDeletethank you so much
DeleteSo nice and serene! :)
ReplyDeleteAlways fun to try something new and get inspired. I took a few free art classes when this whole lockdown thing had only just begun. :/ Never thought we'd still be under curfew all these months later. Have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteI think your painting looks great. I am rather new to watercolor too so I recognize the struggle to get the colors you want. Isn´t easy at all. So, just continue. Take care!
ReplyDeletethank you for the encouragement
DeleteLovely composition and colors ~ practice like anything ~ you will know if W/C is your medium ~

DeleteI've been trying out a lot of watercolor paints, and really my go to is my KOI travel set with about 32 colors. I love them! Also like my watercolor brushes, although I admit my watercolor flat brush is now a favorite too. Mixing colors is everything... you can test on a paper towel, I guess you already know, to see if you like the mix, plus I let the paper mix the colors now too. I know how it feels to need rest and sleep, to restore your balance. Was looking at the water a balm of sorts? Here's to a good night's sleep tonight! For all!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much. I bought KOI watercolor tubes from amazon and there are 12 tubes I am excited to get them as I don't have any watercolor paints Yes finally a good nights sleep thanks
DeleteSuch a stunning painting! You captured the sunset so beautifully with the colours and brush stroke texture - perfect 😁. I hope you've had a lovely week! Happy weekend! Hugs, Jo x
