T Stands for Tuesday

Our first Tuesday of July, and the day after our Independence Day here in the States. Welcome to T Stands for Tuesday where we share with friends and a drink related photo in our post.

Here where I live now,  I have a front row seat looking over the lake to enjoy lots of firework displays. They started Friday evening, and since I enjoy them it's perfect for me. Amazes me still, how I can sit in my own home and watch fireworks over the lake  til I get tired of watching haha Sunday right at dusk the fireworks really began for our 4th celebration, I sat out on the deck for over 2 hours watching. The two homes next to me were shooting them off too so felt like I was in the fireworks. Fun

Hope you had a wonderful long holiday weekend-those of you that celebrate. I didn't get any photos, but I did make us baby back ribs, brats, potato salad, a strawberry jello with tropical fruits-canned, topped with star marshmallows, and a new to me recipe for baked beans-that I will share for our Food Wednesdays. I had posted this recipe awhile back when I was sharing recipes using cast iron pieces. .

Not much new happening, I lost most of my flower seeds do to storms, so only a few came up. I water every other day, and weed a bit and that's about it for gardening, do to the very hot days here. We did get a break during the early part of the weekend, but starting Tuesday we will be in the 100's for several days in a row.  This is just going to continue to be a very hot summer for us in the Ozarks.  This is a cycle that occurs ever so many years after a rough winter.

I have been waiting for a couple stencils to arrive in my mailbox for the sashiko stitched bags One was damaged that came from England so will be waiting for a replacement, but I did receive another set of stencils over the weekend.  Here is a photo of this set, I am liking this artist Pippen. I have an ebook by her as well Now to figure out the best way to mark the fabrics.

I am not big on geometric designs (which most of sashiko is) but I did like a few in this collection. I have a dragonfly stencil that came that I really love, and I ordered one with flowers.  So I will have a variety of patterns to use for the bags.

For my drink share this week, I have several to share with you.    I found this 6 pack of cans at the local supermarket that has a huge liquor department. Looking for gluten free I found the pineapple-fresh pressed apple cider.  I could really taste the pineapple more when I drank it warm instead of cold.

I also bought a bag of this coffee for Larry, a dark roast.

  Lake Views

            Early Sunrise Sunday Morning

Larry spotted these geese swimming by Sunday morning too. We have been enjoying the cool mornings and quiet lake-early early.  Of course by around 11 am the lake was totally bonkers with boats going every which way on the lake, since Friday. It is the 4th after all-smiles. I have enjoyed watching the neighbors grandchildren playing in the lake and fishing.

Another drink share

This is a dark gluten free beer that I asked my Wisconsin friends to look for-as I can't find any brands close by. This one was really good, I opened up a bottle to simmer the brats in and to take a few swallows Tastes like a good European dark beer I also add water to the pot-simmer for a bit and then turn off the heat and put the lid on  for 20 minutes or so before grilling in my cast iron grill pan. Plumps up the brats.

My latest cold brew tea with fresh lemons-very light and refreshing, no need for any added sweeteners

Thank you for visiting-Happy T everyone, and Wednesday is Food Wednesdays this week hope to see you there. If you don't care to share a post, I hope you will stop by and visit all the delicious food posts at the link up

    1. Hello Iris, same here, no sugar added to teas or coffees. yes I am bummed about less flowers-and I planted allot of them-oh well it is what it is. Yes the fireworks are beautiful over the lake-last night was probably the biggest day as many will drive back later today for work tomorrow Happy T

    1. thank you Angie, I am really enjoying the lake views very much. and the lake is pretty quiet except for the summer months. over a river would be lovely too, or an ocean-smiles.

  4. Happy Early T Kathy!!! I'm so glad you enjoy being in the middle of the fireworks.. For me they are an annoyance.. If i wanted fireworks i would go to a firework display.. Instead i have to listen to my neighbors 'cannons' going off til all hours of the night.. Even though there is a ban on fireworks in my area because of the drought.. In this housing development the closest fire department is 8 miles away.. there are no fire hydrants... Just whatever the fire truck tanker can carry.. Everything is BONE dry.. now.. does shooting off fireworks sound like an intelligent thing to do? Our town is putting on a dispay inside the city limits.. AND out at the lake i don't know why they insist on doing it at their home.. When i was a kid we had sparklers ( still love those).. and maybe some firecrackers.. nowadays apparently you can buy cannons.. Crazy! ... Wow! You said fireworks and i heard 'go ahead Deb vent'...lol Happy 4th!and Happy T day! Hugs! deb

    1. Vent away haha actually where I am at the lake they are all very respectful-and the fireworks go off at the lake's edge. Last night they didn't start til a bit before dark and it went on just over 2 hours. the new neighbor that is next to our neighbor on the right of us facing the lake-Loves fireworks-he was the last one to stop last night-and he has been shooting them off since thursday haha I always think of all the money they are spending too. but here they don't go on all night-perhaps tonight they will go on longer-but I am thinking most of these people that don't have vacation or live here year round will be going home late this afternoon.

  6. Happy Independence Day, Kathy! Of course, it is wild there on the lake, just as it should be. Didn't John Adams say we should celebrate with "bonfires and Illuminations all across the continent?" I always remember on this day, a play my 4th graders wrote and performed for a program. I can still hear some of their lines, "Thomas Jefferson will know just the words to write." Of course they made a big deal about the tax on tea and the throwing of it in the harbor. "We'll show that bloody king a thing or two." (No harm intended here for we love our friends from the U.K.) Now that's a perfect memory for your post today. Hugs from the hill!

    2. Yes, I just read your post about John Adams, so that's why I mentioned him here. I also meant to say how much I would like some of your jello and MARSHMALLOW fruit salad! Marshmallow stars at that! :~)

    3. Hi Mary, I was thinking of you when I added the marshmallows-this was a bag of red white and blue star marshmallows-how cool is that?? haha
Yes I wanted to bring up John Adams for our Independence Day

  8. What a lovely post you have given us with many drink choices, Kathy.

I love the sashiko stencil. The stitches are as I remember seeing one woman who demonstrated the procedure on a Quilting Arts show a few months ago. She used old blue jeans and bits of old jeans she then attached to the full jeans. Her swatches were both blue and black and were intended to be different colors from the whole piece. Her stitches were very precise. She said she had been doing it a long time and now didn't need a stencil, but did when she first started out.

Your lake view is lovely. It's been loud here, too. I heard fireworks in my neighborhood until nearly 3 am this morning. I suspect it will not last as long tonight, since I'm sure some of the people are adults who must go to work tomorrow (like you related). I was surprised because the cost of fireworks has nearly tripled this year, which is causing some stands who use the proceeds as fundraisers (like the boy scouts, etc.), to lose money this year.

That ale sounds good, but it isn't quite dark enough for me (grin). I really MUST try to find cold brew tea bags, since you have warned me to not use regular tea bags to make sun tea. Thanks for sharing your lovely lake photos, your sashiko stencil, and your various drinks with us for T this week, Kathy. See you tomorrow for Food Wednesday, too. Happy July 4th!

    1. Hi Elizabeth, I used to watch quilting arts allot, but now since we moved I don't seem to catch it-I would have enjoyed that show about sashiko stitches, mine for sure will not be super accurate.
So glad you are sharing for Food Wednesdays. I was thinking too these firecrackers must be expensive-my neighbors shot them off for over 2 hours straight. Here where I live everyone has been curtious and stop shooting the fireworks around 11 pm which is nice. My neighbors all went home this afternoon.
      Happy T hugs

    1. Hi Sharon, yes it is a treat to be able to watch them either on the deck or in the house-today it is almost 100 degrees so if many go off tonight will watch them indoors. Happy T

  10. You're lucky you can watch so many firework shows right from your deck. That sounds wonderful. It's been booming here every evening this weekend, but I can't see anything. And the sun on the lake is probably just as pretty as any firework can be. I hope you have a great T day Kathy, and see you for Food Wednesday soon. hugs-Erika

  13. Sounds like you had a really lovely 4th of July weekend with front row seats for the fireworks. I like fireworks too but I got really nervous when we had them in Italy where we lived in the mountains. The bangs echo back and forth and it was scary. I didn't like it. But here I don't mind it. In Holland we have them on New Year's Eve and when I am at my mum's house, we spend hours standing at the window watching the beautiful displays.
Sorry to hear you lost so many seeds. What a bummer.
The Sashiko is interesting (I had to look it up). Tell us more when you do some.
Your drinks look nice too. They're making me thirsty.
    Happy T-Day,
    Hugs,

  16. Watching fireworks over the lake must be really nice! Here, fireworks weren't allowed due to our ongoing severe drought. Of course there still were some idiots who knew better and didn't mind endangering their neighborhood. Some people never learn, I guess. I'm sorry about your seeds - I'm not very good with seeds either (except for poppy seeds). So I leave it to the plants to reseed, being fully aware that the new plants might turn up in a different location, but that's fine. Your weather sounds very stressfull, so many days over 100 F are exhausting. Happy T day!

  17. How lovely to have a free fireworks show! I love fireworks at appropriate times - for us it used to be November 5th but now we seem t have two weeks of random fireworks being set off, which I find really annoying . Sorry about the loss of your flowers - I don't blame you for not doing so much gardening in hot weather! Your cider sounds great! Fabulous lake pics- shame abut he noise. Happy T Day, Chrisx
