T Stands for Tuesday

 Good Morning Dear Readers,

Welcome to the weekly T event where we gather together with friends and link up with our hostess Bleubeard and Elizabeth. Many share their latest art or crafts with the required drink related photo.

I also wanted to mention Food Wednesdays here at the top of my post. Our next Food Wednesdays will be next week on July 6th where I will also be announcing some very exciting news about our link up event. I am very excited about the new direction and will announce the news on the July 6th post and link up. Hope you all will be as excited as I am. 😀

Towards the end of last week, I worked on my bag project-going through my hand dyes etc, and spent a few days cutting out pieces for 10 bags. if interested in the process more here   So now that I have a blank "canvas" for the front design I will be going through my bags of rust dyes, sun dyes and my hand dye pieces and cutting up pieces to cover the fronts-similar to a crazy quilt  Then the next stage is to design the sashiko stitch patterns I want to use.  I am still waiting for a couple stencils and also the washable marking pens. I hadn't realized that these were coming form England when I purchased them, but they had the best price with free shipping. So hoping they will arrive by first week in July

Being in my mid 70's now it's way past time to start using and creating with these fabrics. Hand dyeing fabric has been very rewarding for me-I did allot with natural materials from our woods home, really enjoyed rust dyeing, sun painting-dyeing, and even flower pounded pieces.  I think these bags will be a fun project to enjoy my pieces and to learn something new as well. The most rewarding of this project is using them finally-instead of being stored in bags-and shared. So a win win for me.

Sunday we finally got lots of rain and most of all a cool down. The cool down just feels so good after weeks of mid to high 90's F here in the Ozarks. We will be in the '80s F for a couple days before it heats up again.

The "deck duck" (Valerie named her) visits most every day. Larry believes she is a mallard duck.

This photo came out interesting so I  kept it

Sorry below a bit blurry but it was raining a bit at the time-and taken from indoors through the glass

We have many different bird visitors-many small birds, lots of woodpeckers, doves,  cow bird-very fun to watch them early mornings (I put the seed out around 5 am)

Over the weekend we had fish and french fries.  This was the catfish and crappie that I had fried when our Wisconsin friends came to visit. I had lots left over and this fish froze so well. I froze them on a cookie sheet first, and then placed them in a big freezer bag once frozen. I heat them up in the oven with the french fries and the fish tastes like it just came out of the fryer.

For my drink share, I searched my cups for my favorite Yellowstone coffee cup-inside the cup is the map of the park. It had gotten pushed way to the back of the cupboard. (we have allot of lime here in the water as the filter shows after I wash it) (and to keep the coffee maker running well I use distilled water to keep the coffee maker clean and it makes good coffee too)

Happy T everyone, enjoy your new week

  1. Do you have an air fryer? They're good for making food like that, and don't heat up the house the way the oven does (when it's already hot in the Summer). I like all of your bird visitors. - Anne (Cornucopia)

    1. Good afternoon Anne, no I don't have much in new appliances. we rarely fry foods we like fried fish so I do that. this lake house has an electric stove-oven which I prefer gas but I am surprised that the electric stove does not heat up the kitchen like a gas stove does. found that interesting.
thanks for the suggestion though hugs

    1. Hi Cathy I will share the next step soon. I started to work on it, but I was too tired to concentrate today so I have been reading most of the day instead. I am going to work out a pattern for the crazy quilt type pieces. I think that will work out better since I am going to make at least 10 of these bags.

    1. Hi Deb, no one month the participation was very low, so I decided to change it to the first Wednesday of each month during the summer and then decide in September if there was still an interest. This change will be much better for all of us and will be more fun I think too.
We have always enjoyed the birds too. It was Larry's idea this past winter to just throw the seed on to the deck, since the squirrels would not leave the feeders alone-there are soooo many squirrels here too. and this deck needs to be replaced once we get the woods house sold it is rotting away so wasn't worried about the floor too much.
I will do a rain dance for you-haha I hope you get rain. we really really needed the rain we got . Happy T

  10. I love that deck duck photo. It has a great abstract feel, and the duck's eye looks very interesting. And I'm with you about using up materials rather than leaving them in bags. I'm looking forward to seeing what you are going to do with Food Wednesdays. Have a great T day and enjoy your cooler temperatures. hugs-Erika

    1. I don't know this photo turned out this way but yes very abstract-I love the duck's legs too.
I have used a few of my dyed pieces in quilts and other little projects but it's time to just really use them and there will be allot left still I think after this bag project.
This is a good direction for food wednesdays Happy T and new week

  11. Deck Duck is a perfect name!
It is unusual to see a wild duck close to a house. I wonder if it is lonely, in search of bird company that's on your deck.

    1. that's possible. with our very cold spring and rain almost every day for two months-I think there was allot of loss of the baby ducks and geese here. also the wild turkeys here lost allot too

  12. All your dyeing adventures sound very interesting and I'm glad that you enjoy it so much. Very good that it cooled down a bit for you, constantly having the heat is exhausting. And rain! What a gift!

  13. I am so envious of your lake view and your wonderful, winged visitors. We don't have any water views here, but on my walk, I do see lots of ducks and geese in the creeks and ponds I pass, and lots of cardinals, Baltimore orioles, robins, & Brown Thrashers, oh and woodpeckers, too. Happy T Day.

  14. Will look for Food Wednesday next month- you have me curious...
I too love watching all our birds and will put a bit extra food out when sitting outside;). Love that you have your very own "deck duck".
We've had kinda the same weather but I really don't mind. Even broke out a rosé for the first time this season:). Dinner looks good- love fish of most any kind. Have a great week, and happy T day!

    1. Hi Linda, I am thinking you will really like the new changes for food wedensdays. the "deck duck" has been so fun haha quite the surprise too. I have never been one to enjoy the extreme heat even when I was much younger back in the late '70s and lived on the ocean for awhile-I loved it there but usually found the shade haha
      Happy T

  15. Happy T-day, Kathy! Love the birds, the coffee, and that great looking fish. I definitely recommend an air fryer (no oil required and it heats up leftovers perfectly - used mine two times today). Hugz!

  16. I thought I commented on this post Kathy. I'll stop by another time to see if maybe you just haven't approved it. Or maybe I am losing it. No, I know I did as I commented on that fun duck photo. And how you wouldn't find friend catfish here. It would most likely be cod. Have a great T day Kathy. hugs-Erika

  18. I'm having a terrible time, Kathy. I left a very long comment and instead of publishing, it went to MY blog. I've been writing for nearly 30 minutes and the comment just went POOF.

I was glad to read Food Wednesday will be back and glad it isn't on the first this month.

I also wrote a lot about dyeing, including rust and sun dyeing. I'll do that later when I'm not so frustrated.

Smart of you to use distilled water in your coffee maker. Love your Yellowstone mug. Sorry this is the Cliff notes version of what I wrote before. Thanks for sharing your week, your dyeing, your duck, and your coffee with us for T this week, dear.

    1. so sorry Elizabeth, I wish Google would fix these problems with the comments. sometimes I write too and it just goes poof figured it possibly posted I need to go back and check on that -it happened to me several times tonight.
I feel bad google didn't publish what you wrote especially about the dyeing as I know you love to dye too
this is our second refurbished commercial coffee machine. the first one I used tap water and it messed up the machine after a couple years-and these are set up to be serviced so very difficult to clean them we have had this one for around at least 8 years I am thinking. I love that the coffee is a pour over so you can get a cup of coffee really fast. we looked for these refurbished ones online at a great savings.
      Happy T hugs

  19. So fun to see all the birds lined up at your deck restaurant. I found a feeder that the squirrels can't get to. When I fill the feeders, I always throw some seed on the ground for all the ground feeders, squirrels, chipmunks, birds. Can't help it. It's an Italian thing. Abbondanza! Everyone eats! Happy T Day

    1. good morning, that's great you found a feeder to keep the squirrels out, I remember my Mom had spend allot of money for one that was suppose to work-and they still got into it--I don't have a spot for a heavy feeder so was using tube feeders-they were in it right away. that's how we got started last winter just throwing seed on the deck.
I don't mind that the squirrels eat some but they stay around and eat all of it-and they come in numbers here haha the battle of squirrels here

  25. I'm excited about your big announcement too! ☺ Your deck visitors are wonderful, and oh my gosh Kathy! The view of the lake! You know, before Alex and I bought this place in the woods, we visited a place on a lake too. We nearly bought it but then (luckily) found out that the lake had been infested with blue algae and was dangerous to swim in...for the last 3 years! Apparently it just kept reproducing and spreading with no end in sight. We wanted to be on a lake so we could swim and take the dogs with us. So happy we found that out before we made an offer. I think one of these days (in my dreams maybe lol) we will have a little pool and my lake problem will be solved lol...The fish and chips look so yummy! ☺
