This & That

   Good Evening Friends,

We have had some very cool nights, but I still have not turned the heat back on, Am prolonging as long as possible-smiles.

We did have a nice warm up today. I told Larry when we first moved to the lake house that I am thinking at one point most all of the appliances here need to be replaced. The washing machine now has a constant drip inside the drum. I do so much laundry that probably is not a huge issue at the moment. My chest freezer really needs to be replaced-as does this old refrigerator, and I so want a gas stove instead of this electric one-that needs to be replaced as well.

Sadly I have nothing to drive at the  moment. I so need to go food shopping, but  I didn't like the sound of my car when I was going to do errands last week-I just can't get stranded-no one to call for help. I am looking into a service for that though. and Larry's suburban doesn't get driven so the battery needs to get charged or replaced. Hopefully tomorrow and then I need to decide if I am brave enough to drive it. It is just soooo large of a vehicle for me. ugh. Life always throws obstacles that we just need to deal with.

I do not usually read memoirs or biographies but in a book list that I get sent to my email, there was a book by Ina Gartner  Be Ready When the Luck Happens.  I found it an excellent read-very interesting and not boring at all.  She had a horrible childhood-a lot of abuse, but when she met and married-her  husband he was always there for her. They both had professional careers and even worked at the White House. I have watched some of her shows on Food Network and learned from her book that she has authored many cookbooks. For a memoir this flowed well and was hard to put down.

I love Holiday baking, but Larry is eating very little food these days and hardly no sweets  I still want to  make a few Christmas cookies for us though. I love the cutouts as I can get out my cookie cutter collection. Smiles .When I use sugars in baking I am only using fair trade organic now-the flavors are sooo much better. I bought a few from Amazon this past week.  I am  getting a lot of foods delivered  this year from online shopping. I am getting  fish and meat delivered I should see if Wal mart delivers-I don't think they do though where I live especially

I also bought a new watercolor book that just arrived in my mailbox. I watch the author on her You Tube channel and really like her. So far this book is also confidence building-not to be so hard on yourself-and just enjoy painting. Her You Tube channel is under her name. She reviews a lot of new supplies on her channel too.

I also bought this book-One of my slow mail friends wrote that she really liked it. It's about slow stitching and about the author's journey. I love the feel of this book too while reading it.

Gorgeous photos in the book

We are really warming up most of this coming week-so hope to get outdoors and get some work done out there. No frost or freezing in site so far

   Happy New Week!

  1. I'm with you when it comes to wanting a reliable car. I hate being broken down. Nice books too Kathy. I haven't read but want to read the Ina Garten book. I love some of her recipes. And the slow stitch book looks like super eye candy too. Nice choices. I hope the car makes it out for you so you can get to the market and home. hugs-Erika

  3. Have fun with your watercolors. I dont make many Christmas cookies anymore either. They would go bad with just hubby and I eating them. Oh well. Such is life. I hope you get your car situation solved. It would be scary for me too. Janice

  5. Hi Kathy! ♥ I can relate to that fear of driving a car that you can't rely on...my car has been my enemy for the last year and I got stranded several times. Luckily I had a CAA membership and I just asked the guy to tow me home and I'd deal with it another time. If I could get fresh meat and produce and dairy delivered, I would never leave my house. I try to get everything delivered these days!

  6. We eat less and less, too... Oh, I hope I get my darn certificate and my job for good, then I will start with watercolors again, too - and yes, it should be fun!
Yikes for the car. I really haven´t driven since 2018 and would be really afraid - all the e.scooters, e-bikes, in the dark oh, yikes - hope all gets sorted out for you soon, hugs

  7. A lot of my reading is memoirs and biographies and history; I'm sure Ina Garten's would be interesting. I find myself eating less and less these days; i guess the body doesn't need it as i don't do anything terribly physical :=)
    Have a good October.
    cheers

  8. I love Ina's shows and her cookbook recipes always work. I have a couple and I love them. I read this too and thought it was fascinating. What a life -- it didn't come easy and she's a hard worker but so determined. I've always had a crush on her husband Jeffrey! I hope you get all the food you need and the car thing settled soon. I'm a little eager to bake too, though not doing much sugar this year. Well, always happy to give it away!

    1. Jeffery seems like a sweet guy. Larry is going to get out of the house and drive me to the store-not crazy about that but will get him out of the house-he will stay in the car while I shop-so will make as fast as I can. I bake with keto type sweeteners or splenda

    2. I washed up our suburban yesterday-but decided against Larry driving me to wal mart for food shopping-he would be sitting out there in the hot sun while I shop-he can not walk and not health safe for him to be in store like that around people-so still figuring out how to get to the store
