Watercolor Practice & Fireworks have Begun

I thought I would try to get to sleep early tonight, as I was tired but the fireworks have begun already here on the lake. I got up and watched for a bit. I do love fireworks but could do without the ones that just make a very loud boom.

I have been practicing with watercolors and inks this week. I got out the book that I worked out of two years ago. I really like this book as they also use a lot of inks and show the brush strokes.

My piece looks nothing like the page I was using for reference-but that's ok-I am getting back to the feel of the paints again. I usually over do the watercolors when they are still wet-need to work on that.

The brown is the hibiscus ink I had made two years ago. The purple and red is Windsor and Newton's inks and the black is another ink that I have Blues and greens are the watercolors

Any plans for the 4th?   I have no idea what I am going to make us this year. Larry is not eating much this week , and I have to be careful what I eat still-so will figure it out tomorrow haha Now that rain is out of the area-I started the grass cutting early this morning-I will do that tomorrow morning as well. We are headed back up to the 90's-so the lake will be packed for sure. The rain was all taken out of the forecast.

Happy 4th-all that celebrate here in the USA

  1. Hi Kathy, July 1st was Canada 🇨🇦 Day and it was too hot 🔥 🥵 and humid so I stayed in. I love your sketches and the book cover is pretty.

    1. Good evening Linda, I didn't realize that Canada's was on the 1st. The fireworks are still blasting off here haha.
I have to stay indoors too when humid and hot. I started with the grass cutting early in the morning before it gets hotter. Thanks I love this book and it is a spiral too

  3. Just boom?! Rather annoying... I like your sketch and the idea of self-made colors. I´ve neglected watercolor atm, I need motivation and the studies absorb too much. Sad.
It is really unfair. I can eat whatever I want. And am surrounded by many who can not. I sure am thankful. Hope you find something yummy to celebrate. Hugs to you and the busy lake.

    1. Good morning, I agree painting is very calming. I am working at painting more each week to improve. Your paintings are much improved from when you first stared sharing
A lot of people around us shoot off firecrackers that all they do is make a huge noise-like a cannon haha.
Hoping your studies get easier-yes a blessing to be able to eat anything you want-hugs

  4. Your watercolors are better than mine would be. Looks good. Going out to dinner tonight with friends but staying home the rest of the weekend even though the festival in town already started by us. Fireworks will be tomorrow but we wont go either. Janice

    1. Thank you hoping to get better-I love he look of watercolors and inks too. we stopped going to the fireworks years ago-too many people, hard to get out to leave too. I love our lake views for fireworks-they go off all around us and some people spend lots of money on it.
      Enjoy going out with friends

  6. That book looks wonderful, as your flowers are wonderful too. Nice work Kathy. I spent my day making July 4th food- a lemon sheet cake, pre-cooking some ribs, a pasta salad and some corn bread. I hope you decide on something good and have a wonderful 4th. hugs-Erika
